Description
'Arabesque' technically means decoration with either organic or geometric patterns, so that doesn't apply to this... it's so titled because I was listening to Lily Chou-Chou on loop while I drew it.I used a 2B pencil (I left my pencils somewhere in my room and have no idea where 8D).
Reference was a magazine cover, which I removed from the magazine some time ago. I should have made a note of who the designer was, but I forgot. >.>
There is a lot of detail in this, which my scanner blurred, so I sharpened the scan. It sharpened the shading as well as the detail, so the original shading looks softer. I just didn't want to fix it too much. :3

I love this photo! I've had it saved in my "inspiration" folder forEVER--and I'd never think to draw it! Nice!

Thank you! I loved working on this. For some reason I really enjoyed the repetitiveness of the bazillion tiny pearls and jewels. Maybe it was the kind of thing where once you draw one right, you know how to draw the rest, so you can just zone out and do the rest without having to think about it.

Ah, thank you I ripped it out of the magazine and kept it for a while before I decided to draw it, 'cause the details looked like a lot of work. But I'm glad I did it.

Yes, exactly, it's worth it no matter how hard you have to work. So it always surprises me when people say they don't have the patience to do what I do... I think if you want it badly enough, you find the patience. So I think what they mean is, they don't want it enough. XD (I mean, as you improve, your techniques expand in range and improve in quality, so it takes longer and longer to finish a drawing just because you have more to put into it. And you get used to how long it takes, so you don't mind that much. Or maybe I'm just taking my patience for granted.)

Exactly. They don't want it enough. And no, I don't think you're taking your patience for granted, because what you said is true. Patience isn't like the burden they make it sound... patience is the natural tool provided to mould the sculpture... so the quantity of it available depends on the amount of details put into it (and if your talent is broad, you'll need to put many). The piece consumes you and takes all your attention before you even realized your need for patience!
Unfortunately, there are many lazy people out there... or maybe it's just that they're not meant for it... *shrugs*

Welcome , did you use any reference for those.... am... fins in her head? :B... They're awsome, looks kinda metallic...

Crimefish In reply to Mikame [2008-09-05 16:51:40 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the whole thing is as it is in the photo reference, except she had seams where the headdress meets her face. I just missed those out because I wanted the fins to look like a part of her. The whole time I was drawing it I couldn't tell what they're made of. Aside from the jewels and metallic thread, if it's card or whatever, then it did at least have silver airbrushing. So that's pretty hard to render in a drawing, but you're absolutely right, it looks metallic in the original photo.

Thank you~ Luckily, with this kind of (geometric, especially) thing it's easy to divide it up into sections and do one little bit at a time. xD Then it doesn't seem like too much work.

Uh, yeah, give or take a few lines. (On the cover there are seams where the headdress meets the face.) :3 I can't do anything original to save my life. It's a giant flaw. So I will forever be breaking copyright laws.

I think the copyright issue is the only reason I want to do original work. :3 I mean most of the time. Also the parade of expectant people asking when I'm going to start drawing my own stuff. >.>;;
Thank you very much, dear. x3
