I actually wrote this not even thinking about Jeff at first, but then something just called out to me and I rewrote it. I thought about it for awhile and I realized it symbolizes his motive for murder. To me I feel that he'd never see a person smile due to his appearance, so he has to watch people in their sleep. Like any person he'd want to be accepted, though he may be too far off the edge to realize this himself.
