Background:

One might say Veronica Stevens was destined to become a super powered hero, given that her parents were two of Paragon City's original heroes. Her father, the former fire fighter Frank Stevens, was the mighty Tesla Titan, an electric powered brute that stood tall in the face of many of the city's most dangerous enemies, his powers gained in a strange accident involving an electrical fire and a batch of nanites in a science lab. Her mother is Chloe Stevens, a mutant from birth and a long tenured trauma nurse at the Paragon City hospital, her dormant meta-genes brought to life by her daily exposure to X-ray and MRI machines which led to her gaining strange radiation powers that she used to fight crime as the heroine Neutronia. Veronica was born a mutant like her mother, but her powers didn't begin to manifest until she was a junior in high school. Diagnosed with a strange condition called Magnekinesis, Veronica was able to control and manipulate localized magnetic fields and her body's own electromagnetic aura with her mind. Unfortunately her powers weren't that amazing when compared to those of her parents or the other heroes in Paragon City, with her abilities only allowing her to lift objects about the size of a small car. While her parents never pressured her to follow in their footsteps, Veronica was somewhat saddened by the fact she couldn't be part of the family business. She continued to excel as a student in high school, graduating with top honors before heading off to Steel Canyon University, where she double majored in mechanical engineering and physics.

It was at SCU that Veronica met Autumn Sneed, a fellow engineering student who shared many of the same interests, but wasn't quite as socially awkward as Veronica. The two became fast friends and Autumn even encouraged Veronica to use her expertise in the area of magnetic fields to boost her engineering projects. Around this time Veronica also discovered that SCU had it's own local super hero, a beautiful red haired heroine known around campus as Mindy Marvel. Inspired by Mindy's good deeds and down to Earth attitude with the local media and citizens, Veronica began to think of new ways she could use her odd powers to help out around the city. This eventually led to her breakthrough invention, which she called the "Magne-Belt." It consisted of a magnetically charged metal belt with a polarized gem that allowed her to amplify her own magnetic powers and tap into localized magnetic fields around her. With a bit of tweaking, she was eventually able to lift incredibly heavy objects and manipulate a small magnetic energy field around herself for protection. She began training in secret and eventually started to sneak out at night, sticking to small campus patrols while she honed the use of her new abilities, eventually gaining a small bit of publicity when she used her powers to lift a car off of a pedestrian that had been hit at a crosswalk. Obsessed and excited with her newfound powers, Veronica didn't notice that she was starting to neglect other areas of her life, namely her social life and her studies, but fate would intervene when the exhausted rookie heroine fell asleep on her couch one night still in her homemade costume.

Autumn stumbled upon her best friend in her new identity and was a bit shocked to find out that Veronica had powers, though instead of being taken aback, she encouraged Veronica to pursue her dream of following in her parents footsteps. It didn't hurt that Autumn was also very close personal friends with Melinda Crane, who was really the super heroine Mindy Marvel, but she kept both Veronica and Melinda's identities secret, not wanting to betray the trust she had with either of them. With Autumn's help, Veronica eventually created a set of Magne-Gloves and Magne-Boots, and came up with a special costume made from a metal infused synthetic fabric. She eventually learned to manipulate her own magical field so that she could store the suit in a special compartment on her belt and summon it with the word "magnetize", and the addition of the special magnetized gloves and boots amplified her powers to amazing levels. Inspired further by Mindy Marvel, Veronica grew more bold in her activities and even registered with the hero name Polarity, using her newfound powers to take the fight to the criminals of Paragon City. Things were going quite well for her until she ran afoul of the super villain Doctor Kotetsu, who in a pitched battle managed to disable her Magne-Belt, leaving her powerless and at the brutal mercy of his cyborg minions. She was thankfully rescued by the Crimson Dynamo, who after helping her recover, took her under her wing. Veronica eventually followed both Crimson and Mindy Marvel to Steel City, where she was able to finally meet her idol and work alongside the two veteran heroines to put a major dent in the crime rate of Steel City.

Costume:

Veronica wears a special one-piece white bodysuit that is infused with special metallic fibers that she can control with her magnetic powers. It has a plunging neckline that shows off a bit of her cleavage, but otherwise covers the rest of her body. Her suit is accented by a purple pair of hotpants, her white metallic "Magne-Belt," and her purple "Magne-Gloves" and "Magne-Boots." Her purple mask is made from a durable synthetic metal infused rubber that her own magnetic field keeps sealed to her face and she wears a metallic purple choker to accessorize her outfit. Later on after she moves to Steel City and fully masters her powers, Tiffany Anderson helps her create an upgraded suit that further enhances her powers and offers her increased levels of protection. Veronica calls this her "Magne-Force" suit and uses the phrase "Magne-Force Armor Activate!" to upgrade her costume in battle. The Magne-Force suit features a more armored pair of boots and completely covers her chest and neck in a layer of hard synthetic metal in the same color scheme as the rest of her costume. She also gains a durable head covering with an upgraded mask for added protection.

Main Costume -

Magne-Force Armor -

Powers:

Enhanced Physical Strength and Durability: Veronica's natural mutant genes give her a slight edge in the strength and durability department compared to a normal human. Her bones are more dense and her skin is more durable, both of which are aided by her body's natural electromagnetic field. She can lift 500 lbs. with little to no effort and can lift up to 1000 lbs. with a bit of strain.

Enhanced Healing and Metabolism: In addition to her strength and durability, her mutant genes allow her to heal at a much quicker rate than a normal human. Minor cuts and bruises will heal over several hours and she rarely gets sick.

Magnekinesis - Veronica's natural ability allows her to control small magnetic fields with her mind, allowing her to lift objects that weigh up to 2 tons with normal effort and thought. This limit is boosted by her Magne-Belt and other gear.

Aided Superhuman Strength - Each one of Veronica's costume upgrades further boosts the power levels of her magnekinesis and also allows her to form reinforcing magnetic fields around her limbs to aid her in lifting heavy objects. With her full array of gear she can lift one object that weighs up to 40 tons, or a combination of objects that approach that threshold.

Magnetic Barrier - Veronica's natural magnetic field creates a constant localized barrier field that fits around her like an invisible second skin. This shield can deflect small arms fire naturally and is also resistant to elemental attacks. With more concentration she can use it to stop much more powerful attacks and can also extend it to protect allies and civilians while out in the field.

Electromagnetic Blasts - Veronica is able to manipulate her body's own electromagnetic field to fire off short range blasts of energy from her hands. These blasts are powerful enough to dent steel armor plating and short out the circuits of unshielded computers and other electronic devices.

Counteracting Forces: Veronica can manipulate magnetic fields around her to push away enemies or objects, or pull them closer to her. She can use this ability to form physical shields or weapons out of nearby metallic objects. She can also use this power to rip apart metallic constructs or enemies that are made mostly of metal.

Peak Physical Condition: Through her natural mutant genes and rigorous physical training, Veronica is in peak physical condition with near superhuman endurance that is required to use her mentally and physically tasking powers.

Lift Thresholds: With only her un-aided natural powers, Veronica can lift objects weighing 2 tons, going up to around 3 tons with increased mental and physical strain that will quickly exhaust her. Her Magne-Belt amplifies her powers considerably, taking her threshold up to around 32 tons. Her Magne-Gloves and Boots amplify this further, allowing her to top out around 40 tons, though she can push upwards of 50 tons with increased strain and the threat of fully exhausting herself.

Magne-Suit: Veronica's costume is infused with special metallic fibers that use her body's magnetic fields to enhance her defenses. Her suit's fabric can easily resist most knife blades and small arms fire.

Magne-Force Armor: With the upgrade to her armored suit form, Veronica gains even more defensive durability, with her suit's metal skin able to stand up to even military grade weaponry when protected by her magnetic shielding. It also grants her added protections against elemental attacks.

Travel Abilities - Veronica can manipulate the magnetic fields around her to levitate and fly at a decent rate of speed. Her top speed when fully aided by her gear is around 200 mph. She can maintain a slower rate of speed just using her boots and gloves if her belt is disabled. She can also use localized magnetic fields to slide on metallic objects, similar to the way a mag-lev train works.

Weaknesses:

Despite her impressive powers, Veronica has a few vulnerabilities. If any of her Magne-Gear is disabled or damaged, it can severely hinder her power levels. If her Magne-Belt is removed or damaged and rendered inoperative, it cuts her power threshold by nearly 80%. While her gear is durable, it has shown vulnerabilities to intense and focused electrical attacks, which can both disable her Magne-Belt and disrupt her body's natural electromagnetic aura. Her ability to manipulate localized magnetic fields only extends outward from her body in a thirty foot radius, giving her a limited range that her powers are effective. In addition, extreme heat and cold can interfere with her localized magnetic fields, making it harder to use her powers at their full effectiveness. Radiation also severely hinders both her natural and boosted abilities and makes it hard for her to stabilize her magnetic fields, while also neutralizing her protective magnetic shields completely. Prolonged use of her powers at intense levels can leave her physically and mentally exhausted, and though she is a mutant with more natural durability, she can be knocked unconscious with blunt force trauma attacks.

Personality and Traits:

Veronica is somewhat shy, but that comes from mostly growing up a tom-boy who was more interested in machines and working on cars than she was in doing things that were viewed as normal for a little girl. Most of the girls her age were intimidated by her and the boys felt somewhat threatened by her prowess, so she didn't' have a "normal" social circle growing up. She is incredibly smart, especially when it comes to engineering and science, though she can fall victim to her lone wolf mentality from time to time which causes her to take a bit longer making some breakthroughs. She opens up more later on in life and after meeting Autumn, and later on when she starts to work for Tiffany Anderson in her Steel City lab. She remains humble despite her powers and the fact that her parents are some of the more famous "first wave" heroes of Paragon City who fought in the Rikti War. She is an avid inventor and tinkerer, and has gained national recognition for her work on improving mag-lev rail transportation. Despite eventually meeting her idol Mindy Marvel and being trusted with Melinda's secret identity, Veronica is still prone to have fan-girl moments around the veteran heroine.

Really interesting background and nice set of powers! It's also interesting how she uses tech to enhance her powers, making her powerful but not too overpowered. And I like how she calls the name of her suit when she activates it, maybe she could struck a quick pose, depending on the occasion. She's also quite a cutie too, Stacy would be quite smitten if she met her!

She is? I wasn't aware of that... Right now that story is still just planned to mostly be Rina vs. Crimson, with Mindy helping a bit in the middle.

As for Veronica, she's kind of the sweetheart next door, I don't plan on being too mean to her...

No, thought/assumed since she was in Steel City around the same time Rina says hello that Veronica would be involved. But you said she's not, so no worries.

Basically her normal suit just morphs into the armor and reinforces itself. I agree it would be a cool image series, but her creator has a limited commission budget, hehe... I will most certainly be getting a PG image of her in the armor though.

A fantastic new heroine CV I loved her heroic background and how she has a nice combo of natural powers and uses tech to enhance them. I LOVE her costume design. A wonderful blend of the classic and modern. Great job CV!

Sometimes I think simpler is better and I'm a fan of simple 2-color outfits. Her costume and CD's suit are probably the 2 most "minimal" costumes I've created and I love the way both of them look. I was trying to think of a unique way to come up with a magnetic powered character without copying the obvious Magneto or even Polaris from X-Force and I figured I'd just make up something where she can actually control magnetic fields with her mind, like a variation of telekinesis. I didn't want this to be an overpowered ability, and I had been watching some Power Rangers and VR Troopers stuff the other day and thought it would be cool if instead she was an engineer that could build gear to enhance her natural power to super human levels, even to the point she gets a cool armor suit when she gets more advanced. Allows her to be pretty awesome, but still have some built in things that won't make her a pushover.

Nice, yeah 2-colors is really a good base for superheroine costumes. Cassie has her blue and white for example. Usually three colors is the max I'd say, with the third color used minimally. Supergirl is a great example where she's got the red and blue, but a little yellow or gold from her belt. Cassie does this with the gray tights. I think Polarity is perfect and I like the old school superhero briefs too.

Originally she had the briefs/hotpants with tights, but then practicality took over with her creating a magnetic fabric that spreads and protects her body so it wound up being a bodysuit with briefs over it.
