Protectorate - Codex Entry

Elizabeth Brown was born in the early 1920s, following the end of World War I. Her mother had fought in the war as the mighty British super heroine, Royal Protectorate, one of a long line of women who had been gifted the powers of the goddess Britannia over the years in order to protect the country and the rest of the world. Being of the same line, Elizabeth was also gifted special powers and abilities at birth, and she spent much of her early childhood and teen years developing them under the watchful eye of her mother and trainers from the British military services. Due to Britannia's gifts, Elizabeth already appeared to be around the age of twenty when she was only ten years old, and her body and physical prowess developed at a much faster rate than most normal children. Despite the odd nature surrounding her upbringing, Elizabeth enjoyed a somewhat normal childhood and had a very special and close bond with her mother, though she was often curious as to who her father was. When not training and learning proper etiquette and protocol from her handlers, Elizabeth enjoyed taking walks with her mother near the river, finding the flowing waters to be a soothing and relaxing force against all the thoughts racing around in her young mind. Tragically, Mary Anne Brown was specifically targeted during a terrorist attack in London by former German soldiers and died after she was exposed to a magically imbued chemical gas that seemed to completely ignore the immunities granted to her by her powers. British Intelligence would later discover that the Germans had been working in secret for years to try to figure out how to effectively wound or kill the British super heroine, while also pursuing their own super soldier research to try to close the gap and add their own meta-human presence to their armed forces for future conflicts.

The loss of her mother sends Elizabeth into a deep emotional spiral, leading to her becoming closed off to the outside world as she is fully thrown into the duties of becoming Britain's primary super hero. Fearing another attack on their most powerful military asset, the British government secreted Elizabeth away to an RAF facility and kept her on an intense training regimen as they began to teach her advanced combat techniques and the use of firearms, though Elizabeth hated guns and couldn't imagine ever having to use one to take the life of another person. World War II began, but the "Royal Protectorate" was kept hidden away at home, held back to defend Britain while she was forced into making public appearances to help raise war funds. Finally in late 1942, Elizabeth is allowed to enter the fray, and she does so in dazzling fashion as the strength of her abilities exceeds what even British military scientists had foreseen. In early battles, she shows the ability to fly faster than any fighter plane on either side of the conflict, and also is able to pick up and throw German tanks as if they are toys. While she is technically an asset under the British military and able to fight with any unit on the battlefield, her durability and aerial prowess soon have her aiding the RAF during sorties and bombing runs. During her initial battles, Elizabeth wears a uniform that is nearly identical to her mother's in order to pay tribute, but later updates her look to better fit in with her RAF unit. Eventually she encounters the American super soldier Spartan One, the two of them pairing up on multiple occasions to take down secret German facilities. Initially John Carter takes on somewhat of a fatherly role for Elizabeth, helping mentor the younger fighter as he teaches her strategies and street smarts that weren't provided during her training by her British handlers. Despite warnings from her government to ignore the influence of the American soldier, Elizabeth welcomes John's help and the two form a strong bond.

Elizabeth would later encounter another meta-human in the skies over occupied France, where she was engaged in combat by the powerful German super woman Albatross. The two had several knock down drag out battles, and Albatross managed to defeat Elizabeth and knock her unconscious, though when the British heroine finally regained consciousness she found herself not a prisoner, but a confidant. Albatross revealed that her own mother had fought in World War I and had befriended the prior Royal Protectorate, the two of them working together to undermine German forces, though at the end of the war the British government had refused to offer Albatross and her family asylum. When her actions and motives were discovered, Albatross' own mother had been killed and she herself had been forced into taking up the mantle as she was experimented on and given super strength and the ability to fly. Her husband and young daughter were held captive in order to keep her loyal to the German war effort, and Albatross was forced to fight in a conflict she wanted no part in. She allowed Elizabeth to escape with information related to German battle positions, which allowed the allies several sweeping victories across France, and the two would meet in secret many more times throughout the conflict, with Elizabeth trying to figure out a way to save Albatross' family so the German super woman would no longer have to fight. When her own government refused to help and forbid Elizabeth from any further contact, she turned to Spartan One for assistance and a secret mission was put together by the two of them. Consisting of primarily US forces, their small group slipped behind enemy lines and rescued Albatross' husband and young daughter, allowing the family to seek asylum in the United States. Elizabeth returned to London, keeping the entire event a secret until many years after the war.

During the late stages of the conflict, German forces began to make it a priority to attempt to capture the mighty British heroine, hoping they could study her and advanced their own super soldier program to turn the tides of battle. They finally succeeded during a British bombing run, when superior officers ordered that all flak batteries focus their fire on the flying woman instead of the allied bomber force. The Germans took devastating losses in the battle, but were able to knock Royal Protectorate from the sky and knock her unconscious when they finally managed to hit her with a massive blast of flak and anti-aircraft fire. When Elizabeth awoke she found herself held captive on a modified U-boat, which housed a mobile research laboratory. She was tortured and studied for several weeks under the watchful eye of the nefarious Baroness Von Strausshamen, who thought she could bring the young British heroine under her control. Eventually Von Strausshamen broke the young heroine, and under a heavy and constant dosage of multiple drugs and sedatives, Elizabeth seemed to fall under the brutal scientist's control. The cunning Baroness worked up a plan to have the British heroine contact her forces, under the guise that she had escaped and was in need of extraction, hoping to lure the British Navy into a trap. Elizabeth went along with the plan, but unknown to the Baroness, she was not actually under her control and had been playing possum the entire time. Using secret code language, she seemed to lead the British ships right into the trap, but in reality she had clued the allies in to the German's plan and instead it turned out to be an ambush in favor of the allied forces. The U-boat Elizabeth was being held captive in was hit by several torpedoes and completely destroyed, its research lost to the depths as the unconscious and weary British super woman was fished from the wreckage by a retrieval team and brought back to an RAF hospital where she recovered and was debriefed following her harrowing captivity.

After the war, Elizabeth attempted to assimilate better into mainstream society, though the horrors she had seen and faced during combat would never leave her, and made it hard for her to trust others as she had seen just how horrible some people could act toward others in the pursuit of victory. She attended Oxford University and studied sociology and modern language arts, expanding her horizons a bit as she explored her sexuality and her own place within the world. This led to her becoming a bit more untrustworthy of her own government and their motives behind using her. Her support for the military never wavered, and she had endeared herself to the men and women she had served with during World War II, but she no longer trusted the politicians and the people at higher levels of power. Elizabeth becomes more of a hometown hero around London, as she does not take part in any combat operations in either the Korean or Vietnam War, though during both conflicts she stops several terrorists threats against London. She later becomes an ambassador to Russia during the Cold War, but her attempts to help broker peace take a dangerous turn when she is betrayed by a British spy working both sides of the aisle. While on-board a private diplomatic flight to Moscow, Russian agents are able to infiltrate Elizabeth's team of handlers and the plane is pumped full of sleeping gas, knocking the unsuspecting heroine out cold. When Elizabeth finally awoke, she found herself held captive in a subterranean base deep below a volcano, her team killed by the Russian agents, and the entire event covered up as a tragic plane crash in mountainous terrain. Her captivity would be short lived, as Spartan One came to her aid, the American hero having been monitoring the base on his own as he hunted for a super villain that had escaped US custody. Together the two of them managed to defeat the rogue agents and escaped before the base's self destruct mechanism could activate. Taking refuge in a small motel in a remote mountain town, John and Elizabeth further bonded, and with the passing of John's wife Helen, the two were finally able to act on years of building intimacy.

With the help of Spartan One and the CIA, Elizabeth was safely extracted and returned to London even more disillusioned with her government, given that they didn't even bother to try to send a rescue team and wrote her off as a necessary loss. Thankfully, due to budget cuts and a restructuring of the British armed forces, Elizabeth is able to leave the employ of the British government and strikes out on her own as a super hero, dropping the "Royal" part of her name and becoming the heroine "Protectorate." She becomes and ambassador for the United Nations and eventually obtains dual citizenship in the United States when she moves to Steel City. During a UN World Summit there, she is attacked by members of the same German terrorist group that killed her mother, the group having succeeded in forging a magical spear weapon that is capable of severely wounding Britannia's herald. Stabbed through the shoulder and on the wrong end of a violent beating, Elizabeth is saved by the timely intervention of Steel City's main heroine, the Crimson Dynamo. After fighting off and defeat the terrorists, Crimson is able to get Protectorate to her advanced medical lab and with the help of her close friend Jaguara, is able to save the British woman's life. Tiffany is confronted by a vision of the goddess Britannia and thanked for assisting her herald, the goddess also temporarily mind melding with the tech powered heroine to show her everything that Elizabeth had been through in her long life. Elizabeth woke up after sleeping for several days, and she and Tiffany soon forged a close bond which led to several intimate encounters during Elizabeth's recovery and eventual return to being a super hero. With a new home base in Steel City, Elizabeth focused on finding more allies while she assisted Crimson and her other friends with keeping the city safe. Her travels would take her back across the pond to London, where she met Spitfire, a new British heroine who also happened to be Isla Hendry, an ace fighter pilot in the RAF. Whiel Isla was initially quite nervous about meeting a woman she had long looked up to, eventually she and Elizabeth became close friends, even being intimate on a few occasions, and it was Elizabeth's connection to the goddess Britannia that eventually allowed Isla's best friend Jasmine to regain her own mortal body and consciousness so become the super heroine Lotus.

Elizabeth would eventually reconnect with Spartan One, running into him on several occasions during the 1990s and 2000s, though despite their romantic encounters, the former American super soldier had to retreat into hiding each time. Though she had herself experienced some amazing intimate times with both Tiffany and Isla, Elizabeth found that her heart longed to be John, the fact they were both immortal only making her pine for him even more as she could see the two of them growing old together throughout the coming centuries. He would surprise her by showing up in Steel City to assist her in stopping a runaway bullet train, and though he attempted to escape the scene after giving her a romantic kiss, she insisted that he join her for dinner that night at Tiffany's house. As she nervously prepared for their dinner date, Tiffany helped her gain the courage to tell John how she really felt and after a rather romantic evening, she confessed that she loved him and was tired of him always vanishing into the shadows for his special missions, telling him it was time for him to stop running and settle down with someone who loved him. Moved by her confession, John agreed and soon the two of them moved into a secluded log cabin on the outskirts of Steel City. With vast acres of farmland around them, the pair busied themselves with a somewhat normal lifestyle, even adopting two horses from the local animal shelter, which they named Spitfire and Mustang respectively. With Tiffany's eventual change into the Crimson Valkyrie, along with the arrival of Silver Falcon and several other heroes in Steel City, Elizabeth found that she could take a backseat for a little while, finally getting a chance to focus on her life and enjoy some downtime after having been an active super hero for well over 70 years. She still lends her powers to battle when necessary, and enjoys mentoring younger heroes when they seek out her guidance, while she lives a mostly relaxed life in the country with her love, John Carter. She still participates in RAF activities from time to time, joining Spitfire for fund raising and other charity appearances, while also assisting Lotus and her group of young British heroines that have formed the "British Bombshells" super group in Western Europe. Eventually Elizabeth would like to have her own daughter to continue her family's heroic line, but for now she is finally at peace, enjoying life and the support of the amazing family she now has around her while she continues to protect the world from any who would threaten it as the mighty British heroine Protectorate.

Nice outfit, regal and elegant. Looks like the lovely heroine has gone through all the chaotic times of the late century, so it's nice that she finally found some peace.

Yeah I wanted to go for something that would be regal and classic for her and I really love how the uniform turned out. She has been through quite a lot, so it is nice that she and John can settle down in the country and enjoy a peaceful life, helping out here and there when need be.

I really like the costume - it's a nice classic look

And 70 years of heroics is a long time; she and John deserve some time off

Well they are timeless, hehe...but agreed, they deserve a bit of time to relax and thankfully there are enough heroes now that they can take a step back and just enjoy their time together! I was really happy with how the costume turned out!

Love all the details:  nice boots, skirt-and-tights look, brass buttons on the double-breasted top that looks like real fabric (!), and stylish hair

I think the hair is what really sells it all, because her costume looks great, but she has that true "bombshell" hair style where there's just so much beautiful brown hair cascading everywhere, hehe

No arguments on that last bit   I do like that her OG was with her for so long cause it honored her mothers legacy.  But she grew into her own unique heroine and deserves a costume to compliment that change

This was definitely worth the wait. Besides debuting Protectorate's new (old?) look, this is a fantastic look into the history of the original British Bombshell. While there were some said moments for Elizabeth, it seems she's getting a happy ending (or as much as an immortal has an ending ).

Her time in WWII is really interesting, I hope we'll be seeing more of Albatross (maybe a team up between Protectorate, Albatross, and the original Lionne? ).

Her relationships with Crimson and Spitfire are great and I'm sure we'll see those explored in more detail in the future.

And a beautiful superheroine falling in love with someone named John...what makes guys with that name so lucky?

I seem to have lost the X-girl thing I made of Albatross on here, but I'll try to dig her up and maybe get PG to take a crack at her here at some point. Would be fun to get some images of her and Liz together since they did have a few intimate times while Liz was trying to help her defect and escape from the Nazis. Tiffany and Isla kind of served as anchors for her while she still pined for John, and thankfully it all worked out for all 3 of them in the end. As for the John thing, it just kind of worked out that way, and even Emma/Shadow Samurai's husband is John, so I guess John's are just lucky in this universe.

Honestly, didn't think much was going to change besides Liz's costume and an affair with Isla, but was pleasantly surprised. Liked the addition of Albatross and the connection to mom. Also liked how you took away her connection to the royals.

I had Albatross around before, but for some reason can't find the profile I made for her, so I'll have to work something up again. I need to fix/edit Liz's main bio and update it with the new art as well. Wouldn't really call it an affair with Isla, neither of them were married... As for the royal connection, I wanted to drop that since Liz doesn't exactly look at herself as a political instrument as they tried to use her for early on in the war, she just wants to help people and do what is right, which is why I wanted to have her become her own independent heroine after her time in the RAF/British military services.

So she wasn't with Spartan One when she hooked up with Isla?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CrimsonVlkyrie In reply to AzureVirgo [2019-06-02 19:21:06 +0000 UTC]

She hadn't seen him in well over 10 years at that point. Basically they have their first romantic encounter in Russia in the 80s, then he vanishes for a little while, resurfacing in the 90s where they hook up a few times. In the early 2000s she moves to Steel City where she meets Tiffany and they have a romantic sisterly friendship. During this same time she meets Isla in London and sort of the same thing there. It just works out for them at the time. John returns sometime in the last 2000s and she finally just tells him she loves him and wants him to stick around this time and they settle down in Steel City together. So in terms of a relationship, they were just kind of having flings here and there where she wanted more out of it but him going off the grid all the time prevented that from happening, so technically she wasn't "cheating" on anyone since she wasn't in a committed relationship.
