I thought that was Krystal in her Command uniform looking upon a Master Emerald fusion with the crystal she was trapped in.

Something like that. She's a being created in the image of a mobian by chaos in order to keep it safe.Β
I should write up her bio at some point, but essentially, the guardians let their guards down one too many times, endangering the forces of chaos. So the forces themselves created a being to assist them, whose only purpose was to keep chaos safe. That way if Knuckles judgement faltered there would be a fail safe, and someone powerful enough fight for it without reservations.
