Since the pawrates don't have ornament hooks, I needed an interesting way to display them. I found this chest at a thrift store on a half off day. Hooray! It is in perfect condition, was lined with green felt, had a removeable top tray, and leather on the outside with patriotic and military decals.materials/process:
lined the lid with a carribbean map bandanna from work acrylic shelf cut to fit 200+ silver and gold plastic coins, most were cut in half water print paper with clear plastic painted the leather with leather dye, jolly roger painted in acrylics fleece for sand (idea stolen from The whole beach/treasure section breaks up into pieces for easy transport. I so need to make more pawrates to fill this.

so I'm not the first with this idea of a landscape in a chest. And the thrift stores in my vicinity didn't have chests

Thank you! I said thrift store...but I suppose it was technically a thrifty antique mall sort of place. Though I have been seeing lots of chests around hobby stores like Michaels and Hobby Lobby as of late. I think I really just wanted my own pirate playset. >^-^<

As always this is an amazing display (this is why they make you do all the arranging at work.) Not that what they allow you to do at work compares in any way to this display... I'm just saying you really have a gift. Time to go see the pirate kittens now...
