Description At last! It's done! I took me over a year, duh.
I'm pretty glad I can finally move on to other stuff now, and I can say I'll never undertake something that big ever again!

And yes I know the type is unreadable at this size. The original PS file is 1.3Gb (and takes ages to open, update, save) and the flattened .jpg at full resolution is 48Mb. Please send a note (or an e-mail to crooty_at_champignon.ch) with your e-mail address if you want a personal copy and I'll send you a DropBox link to download it. A would be much appreciated then. Thanks.

YAY! This map was part of the Terra Incognita exhibition at the SoHo Gallery for Digital Art in NYC from 16th to 29th July 2010.

YAY! A DD!
Thanks Moonbeam13 and TheCreativeJenn ! And also everyone who comments and s.

Check out Gidde 's beautiful version of the map too:

Congratulations on the DD! I came to take a look at it, and recognized your screen name from years ago on the John Howe forums (I'm assuming you're the same person ). It's like stumbling on a long-lost relative. It's great to see how your art and photography has developed. All the best, and again, kudos on the well-deserved daily deviation!

so this is your entire creation? I mean, how did you inspired to create this?? I tell you because I am also working in a project where I need to create a map....what advise can you give me? or anything that you recomend me?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Crooty In reply to Irlus [2012-05-23 17:12:39 +0000 UTC]

No, actually they're from a series of books. Each book had a map of part of the world. I combined them and then made a colour version. So I'm not sure I can give you good advicem but you should check out !

This map is actually for a Fictional world featured in the bookseries The Belgariad and The Malloreon by David Eddings, the original maps were featured in the book and this is a kind of "revamp" of those maps i'd say

Lol what a coinsidence, I've been listening to the audiobooks of the Belgariad and the Malloreon again these days and always looked at this map to get a better idea of where they were at each time, because this is the best map I could find of it ( in fact, one of the best maps i've seen of any fantasy world so far), and now I see you got a DD :3 Very well done! I still love it <3

Sorry to be nosy, but I noticed your sig and I was wondering: Do you think it's acceptable to give art to people for free, but not acceptable to give it for a very small amount of money?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kessir In reply to MetalMagpie [2012-05-21 14:10:28 +0000 UTC]

My opinion is that it is okay to give art for free, since that usualy involves giving it out as Giftart or free ressources, meaning to be helpful. If one does just free requests, thats their decision to do, as the intention doesnt involve the wanting to earn anything in return for their art. Depending on their motivs, it can be an act of kindness, an attempt to improve their artistic skills by drawing other people characters or just to pass the time, meaning they do it as their hobby.
But people that already start seeing their art as buisnes but only charge a very low amount for it usually underestimate their own potential in arts, the low prices additionally leads the ones that can afford it to not cherrish the art itself and easily forget the effort the artist put into the picture, only judging the characters the person drew (if it was character art, what it usualy is).

As another addition, which isnt too heavy weighting on the actual artistic side, the prices of such people "ruin" the buisnes of those that actually charge a decent price for their art quality, as people will always run off and rather take commissions form the cheaper ones.
