These two are among the best fighters in the Dragon Quest Franchise, they were both companions of their respective heroes, they were temporarily possessed by the forces of evil in some point of the story and have a complicated love life.

Maam.

She lived with her mother Leira in Nayle Villege in the Romos Kingdom. Maam trained under Avan and is proficient with Heal spells, but never could successfully learn any offensive ones. Avan gave her a Magical gun that shoots magic spells, which helped her compensate for her lack of expertise with any of the other schools of magic. She became the companion of the hero Dai and his friend Popp. When the gun gets destroyed she decides to change to another vocation, Martial Artist, and temporarily leaves the party to train under Brokeena, known as the God of Martial Arts. Under Brokeena, Maam learns one of her ultimate techniques: the refractor fist, an attack that mimics excess use of Mplus, which results in the degradation of the opponent's body. While she have a special place for Hyunkel in her heart, she seems to have accepted Popp’s love for her. At the end of her journey, she decided to accompany him in their search for Dai after the final battle alongside Popp’s friend Merle, a seer who also had a crush on him.

Jade (Martina)

She was the princess of Heliodor. She was a companion of the hero known as the Luminary who was a Dundrasil Prince. She knew him since childhood and saw the Luminary as a younger brother. After the tragic events of Dundrasil that caused Jade to be separated from her family, Eleanor and, most importantly, the Hero, she was saved by Lord Robert, Rab, who had survived the events of Dundrasil despite being inside the castle. After being saved by Rab she decides to accompany him on a shared adventure to both find the Luminary and the root of the darkness that plagues Erdrea while causing the fall of Dundrasil. Initially, they went to Heliodor to see if her father would help them find the Luminary, but decided not to see him after he told everyone that she had been killed by the Luminary. This leads them both to feel suspicious and that he must be possessed by someone. They both travelled around the world for 16 years before Act 1 of the story began, discovering the presence of Mordegon and beginning to inquire about Mordegon's involvement in the dark events that took place. They met the Luminary again in a tournament in Octagonia and decided to join forces to stop the true evil behind the darkness in the land. The Dark Wizard Mordegon. She loves the Luminary like an older sister and have feelings for Henrik, the greatest knight of Heliodor and subsequent Luminary’s companion.
