There is no setting.

There is no lore.

There is only octopus goat.

More of a creature design post than a speculative evolution post, this... Thing was born of a conversation between I and AvesAdversary regarding the old saying "a fence that won't hold water won't hold a goat." More specifically, of me declaring that - upon occasion, I wondered if my own goats were chordates or cephalopods in disguise from the gaps I have seen them slip through. When I next returned to my phone, I saw this staring at me.

It is a thing of monstrous beauty and perfect horror.

Note the small beak and boneless body, perfectly able to slip through even the smallest gaps in fencing to reach greener grass. Note the small manipulator-tentacles on the ankles, all but custom-built to undo gate latches. Note the terrifyingly large brain, able to devise all sorts of strategies for scurrying into the locked-off does' pen as though to make sure that most kids are born in the dead of winter instead of spring. Behold.
