Description
The Cephaloids are my in-game empire in Spore. I even had a history written up about them as well for fun. They resemble the Martians from HG Well's The War of the Worlds, because they are in fact one and the same. The idea is that the Cephaloids came from another part of the Galaxy and eventually used Mars as a colony. From there they invaded Earth, for fun really.
The Cephaloids established a highly respected position in the cosmos, but also one not to be messed with.
Whilst I was playing the game, I did make quite a few enemies. Which I permanently removed from existence.
Their screams of pain will echo through space forever...
*ahem*
They deserved it, I don't really want to pay them 10,000 Sporebucks because their religion says so. I've got weapons to buy and adventures to take, I'd rather spend my money on that.

Still though, it is an interesting design and I wonder why the people behind the Manta-Ray design didn't think of using these style legs other than for Budget reasons alone. That said, I wonder what earlier models of the 1953 war machines woulds have existed other than the Dust to Dust War Machine. Do you have any spare times to extrapolate what they would have looked like, not that I'm demanding that you draw these machines.

To be frank, they did have an earlier model of the War Machines from the film, complete with interesting Tripod legs, blue lights and the Heat Ray being directly on the front. I still wonder why they didn't use those kind of legs for the film.

I have seen that model as well. Because that was used in the series, not the film. And for whatever reason, the invaders made out that it wasn't as efficient as the swan-like war machines. That blue War Machine was only designed for the TV series.

I personly think that the 1953 Invaders didn't really come from Mortax, but were forced to flee there after a nasty civil war with the original Martians who genectically engineered them to help them with their current dilema. In an attempt to get back at them, the 1953 Martians then launched an invasion of Earth in order to transform it into a Mortaxan (They now called themselves that) Base, starting with The United States and spreading outwards across the globe. However, The original Martians got wind of their plans and tried to stop them by invading the UK. This, as well as tieing in elements of "The Space Machine" By Christopher Priest, also ties in the Events of The 2011 Video Game adaptation. This unfortunatly was a massive FuckUp for both sides.
Just stating my opinion.

I never really favored the TV series concepts in general. It always seemed as though they were just exploiting the franchise of the original movie and story. Nice idea though.

lemme guess they are Martian deserters that left Mars and started an empire of their own?

Close, kinda reversed. They are not originally from Mars, but through their early explorations of the space they came to use Mars as an mining colony for Spice. But as they became separated from the rest of their species they attempted to save themselves by choosing Earth as a new colony which evidently failed.
I had to make it this way because you cant use Mars as a home world in Spore. But if you search really hard you can find our solar system which I hope to make a colony on when I get the game running again.
