I remember this movie!

I watched it in class I had Study Hall in in High School. I was very amazed and curious as to why I never heard of Merrick...but I really liked the movie. In fact I even have the script for the stage play!

I have the stage play script too. I think its the first Merrick book I ever got. Glad you like the movie. It's really good, huh?

Aw, good on Frederick Treves for rescuing Joseph from the mob at the train station, and taking care of the man till his death. I feel much gratitude that Treves really did his best to make sure Joseph was as comfortable as he could be in his last years, and I'm sure Joseph was greatly grateful to him as well.

Indeed so. I think Treves may have felt he needed to make it up to Joseph for treating him like a specimine at first. And I don't doubt for a minute that he truly became fond of Joseph, and was very saddened when he passed away.

I agree that he was probably quite sad when Joseph died. I found it touching that apparently they had a service after Joseph's death in the hospital chapel with some of the nurses and other staff. I wonder what they did for the service...but the man definitely deserved the service, I'm sure he would've appreciated the remembrance.

Yeah, I thought that was really touching too. It definitely showed that they cared about him enough to give him a proper service. I know if I had been present, I would've been bawling my eyes out.

Oh gosh, I would be too. I was just doing the Epilogue of "The Bread of Kindness" (won't come for a while yet, though!), and I was actually crying. But I believe that Joseph is with us in spirit, and in our hearts.

I know what you mean. I sometimes miss him so much, even though I never met him personality (I wish I did). But like you said, I believe he knows how we feel about him, and that he's with us in spirit.
