Description
A cool little ball of red/orange Vanadinite with clear calcite from Mexico. It's only 1" making it one of the smallest clusters I own. It's a neat little thing with lots of crystals. It's new to my collection!More rocks-->crystalcircle.deviantart.com/g…

Beautiful! If 1" is the smallest thing in your collection, then you definitely need to explore the world of thumbnails (and perhaps even micromounts).

I do need to get into micromount collecting because I'm starting to run out of room XD My dad has a few micromounts that he started his collection out with, but then he got into larger specimens. I've always been into collecting larger things because I love to pick up and hold some of my specimens to get a good look at them (plus they look great in our lit glass display cabinet). The micromounts my dad has are SUPER tiny! You really need to get up close to even see the crystals on some of them. I have seen nicer mounts before (like yours), but again, I've always ended up been attracted to larger ones. I'm definitely going to start buying those though. I have a lot of cabinet, shelving, and chest space, but that will run out soon if I keep buying large things.

Micromounting is not for everyone, as a lot of people may not get the enjoyment out of tiny things, even under the 'scope. Try a few first and see if you like them. Many mineral species only exist in micro-sized crystals. Occupying less space is also a reason why people enjoy collecting micromounts. Micromounts are usually no larger than half an inch. If your biggest specimen is 1 inch, then maybe you can ease your way into collecting thumbnails (between 0.5-1 inch) first before attempting micros!
