Description
FreeBSD VM on my desktop.Giving it a fair shot, I love it. Going to be on my go to distro lists. Despite being a BSD instead of Linux.
But hey... a *nix is a *nix

thanks for the add. Well NIX IS A NIX is not really the case. FreeBSD is basicly the new BSD UNIX. BSD UNIX died years ago. All the BSD UNIX now are FreeBSD for one thing, and NetBSD, OpenBSD and DragonFly BSD. They are open source, but still very close to orginal BSD UNIX. As to GNU/Linux is not really at all like UNIX. It is its own style of a NIX like system, but it has nothing to do with UNIX. It uses GNU OS userland which is MEH. The BSD Userland is a better userland and to me a better "NIX" compared to GNU/Linux.
If you want a very stable / powerful system with pf firewall and DTrace, ZFS file system or even UFS file system are wonderful, you have Jail and very much a lot of simular features that you would see in a Real UNIX system like Solaris.
FreeBSD is known to be hardcore stable, very long uptime with no lags or downtime, it is rock solid workstation OS if you are running a server FreeBSD is the way to go man.
GNU/Linux i used for over 15+ years and it was wow cool exciting but over the last 7 or so years i started to get annoyed by the linux fanboy and all the madness that you see in the community based OS, and it's just madness. The OS is not even complete its like 2 seperate projects with each one having different views of computing, and Just the "GNU" "/" "Linux" is like GNU V.S. LINUX lulz. FreeBSD and all BSD and Solaris are all Complete System meaning its with the kernel, and userland so its no seperated projects or dispute. It's a complete OS as that is going by UNIX standards. A system as a whole developers devel the entire system not having seperated project and licenses. All bsd systems including a lot of parts of solaris is BSD license.

YW, and yeah... I said that only because they're similar enough to where the transition over to a BSD would be easier than that of Windows to Linux
I've also been meaning to setup a BSD machine for a little while now but it wasn't until now that I've created a machine to use it, tonight I have fun!

sweet! I hope you have fun on BSD. I use it everyday inside Vbox i also use Solaris 11.3. I use windows 10 as my host and run my unix inside a VM. To me its the best way because windows 10 give me good support for pc gaming on steam and other software. it has great hyper v technology and i have 16gb of memory a fairly good cpu and gpu and yeah i got the guts and glory to run a few UNIX in Vbox.
I have run freebsd 9 and 10x for a few years native on my box, and also solaris and illumos/solaris aka open indiana for awhile as well. I use to run all kinds of GNU/Linux for many many years... Windows isn't much different. except that it uses more OpenVMS like commandline.. as bsd is more unix commandline, as GNU/Linux is quite simular but not entirely but i see where ur getting at. I also ran OS X hackintosh on this box natively for a while and runs it good. I may just do that again
Cheers m8
