saturday morning carto--...COMIC!horrible fact: in the original nes super mario bros you can get "infinite" lives from some turtles. but there's NO such a thing as infinite lives, if you get more that 126,,,you die....alone...killed by your own greed.

*Adelle reads description, notices it erroneously says 126* Actually, the cutoff before life overflow is 127...get more than that, and it overflows to -128. You can remember that 127 is the maximum because it's 2^7-1, the largest number you can store in a 1 byte signed integer, which is what lives are in SMB. Also, technically, you don't get Game Over until you either a) beat the level (not too hard to do if you're doing this at the end of 3-1) or b) die, because the Level Intro screens are the only point the game looks at lives remaining. As it happens, you can even continue doing the trick until your lives go back into positive numbers and the game'll be none the wiser. Just don't see that screen with negative lives, because then the game will be like "Wow, you should've gotten Game Over a while ago! I don't know how you continued with negative lives, but I'll fix that problem now."
Another interesting point is that, if you die immediately after getting -128 lives, it'll underflow back to 127 and you can continue playing because the game decrements lives by 1 before checking if you're life count is positive. But if you had anywhere between -127 and 0 lives, dieing will give Game Over because you'll still have negative lives after the game subtracts 1.
Also, good thing Lauren the Alicorn stopped Celestia before she got to that point! Also, obligatory D'AWWW!

I had a dream last night about the Mane Six entering a race in a ridiculous way. They took turtle shells out of the tortoises and turtles and then they wear them when they entered a race. Then I followed them and pushed myself and walked against the wall on a 90 degree turn to make myself faster and then reached the finish line first.
