Well, 1. He's not actually important... honestly he's pretty much useless.
2. He's just a god awful character.
A lot of people, if they say: "I WUV LUNA, SHE IS BEST PONY!!3!" I just go: "Hm, okay, well, guess I can understand." but I honestly never got people liking Shining Armour, I don't think a single of my friends actually likes him. Most cringe when he appears.
Well, most go: "TWILIE!!!!" really loudly to mimic how retarded he is, but I think my point still stands.

While Shining Armor may not be very well rounded or a memorable character, what I like about him is his relationship with Twilight. Shining Armor's loyal and carrying nature just makes him a very likable role model and friend to Twilight. Considering how antisocial Twilight was as a filly, it makes sense that she would form an instant bond with those closest to her such as an older brother. It's just good to know that Twilight had friend as a filly.
