Yes.Β  That's the hard drive's motor and the little arm it powers skipping.Β  Back everything important up now.Β  Like, 'If this dies before I can finish copying, what's most important to save?' now.Β  There's no telling.

Technically, it might not be the hard drive's fault.Β  Two other possibilities are faulty input from the motherboard or fluctuations in the power supply, either of which can cause the motor to skip.Β  But most likely it's the hard drive, and that hard drive is gasping its last.

I ran into all of these together in the Great Computer Meltdown Of 2013.Β  Fun times!Β  Fun times.

Now that was pretty funny!

As for the hard drive, I don't have too much experience with them, but at the very least get it looked at. Doesn't sound normal.

Definitely transfer everything to a new drive, right away, your disk is going to bite the dust for good soon-ish.

Don't turn the computer off and get any data you value off of the drive right away.Β  I assume it is more of a record skipping sound as opposed to the normal mechanical grinding.

j6cubic In reply to Demao [2014-05-28 08:56:52 +0000 UTC]

Also, get a backup drive (I recommend a networked one so you don't have to deal with plugging/unplugging anything), set up a suitable backup software (if you're on a Mac Time Machine is perfectly fine) and make sure it makes regular backups. Sometimes catching a drive failure early still doesn't mean you caught it before something important got corrupted.

As far as important data is concerned, redundancy is the best policy.

If everything else still works fine, then I would just suggest you look for a replacement hardrive.

Why didn't they do this in the first place? I mean Sombra was sandblasted like a stubborn stain but everyone seems content to just leave villains lying about where honest ponies can just trip over them.

Braing back capital punishment Celestia! It'll send a message!

Jareksobinski In reply to Ziblink [2014-05-27 17:53:50 +0000 UTC]

After all they all let Discord's betrayal slide. Come ON! He helped Tirek gain power! He betrayed his princess and his country. He should be a fugitive at this point with a death sentence on his back.
True thing is that he was only a friend of Fluttershy while other ponies weren't too happy to see him, but I hoped that kindness meant something to him.
Ponies have a weird sense of justice.
Celestia banished her sister to the Moon when she could simply purify her like mane 6 did.
They turned Discord into stone and he was conscious the whole time (see "Keep calm and flutter on" he said that he acknowledged everything that happened around him).
They destroyed Sombra's physical body and next they kill him completely.

Honestly I think that you could eat a pony alive and still make friends with them.

Honestly, I think the worse you are the more mercy you'll get. Gilda is permanently out, Trixie only got forgiven when she came back and enslaved the town. (What? Wasn't she evil enough to forgive the first time?)

And it's always 1'000 years with Celestia, it's like that's just some nice big round number she likes.
