Despite this image, the only thing that came to my mind was 'Wait, that's a girl?' Also the crystal ponies were less crystal and more just glittery. He probably lost his taste for them after Twilight made him read the dusklight series.

He didn't have this problem in the Crystal Empire, why now? I imagine he just now realized all the face-stuffing he missed out on in his siblings' kingdom.
And FrostRaven32 is right; between Spike and Rarity, Flashwing won't get a moment's peace in Ponyville. Rarity will be forcing her to model in every way imaginable and Spike will be watching her sleep.
