Meh I've been eaten by leeches. It's not that bad you don't even feel it unless you try to pull them off.

"Doctor, what should we do? We've tried three different mercury injections, have her on a regimen of radium powder, and are making sure she's getting plenty of lead-fortified water, but there's still no improvement!"

"There can be only one possible cause. Clearly...this pony has too much blood!"

It makes me wonder if the physicians of the olden days just pulled shit out of their asses or if they were actually trying to do medical science.

Yay! Leeches!

The compound hiruden in the leech's oral secretions is the primary anticoagulent, and is the reason leeches are used to maintain blood flow in re-attachment surgery for fingers and toes after accidental amputations. *nerd*

Don't leeches have a natural anesthetic so you don't actually feel them until someone tries to get 'em off?

Beau-Skunk In reply to ??? [2012-01-09 01:50:44 +0000 UTC]

Leeches kinda squick me out to, so I understand your pain.

Very nice parody comic of the new episode. (I just love the expressions you give the ponies.) Funny thing is, this actually looks like something that could've happened in the actual show. (Considering it's "edgey" moments.)

Leave the poor things alone!

Leeches were used for medicinal purposes in the past, was that the intended context of the comic?

I remember getting a leech on my leg when I went swimming in a lake once when I was, like, six or eight or something. As for what it actually feels like... nothing. I didn't even know the thing was there until I came out of the water and saw the little sucker clinging to the back of my calf. Then I freaked out and my dad managed to get the little guy to just let go using either fire or salt (maybe both, it was a LONG time ago and I can't remember clearly).

Also, live leeches are STILL used by the modern medical industry. My mom (who is a nurse) once told me that the hospital keeps a good supply of the suckers in storage at all times.

You know, in olden times, it was believed that the body was made of four "humors", of which one was blood, and that illnesses were caused by an imbalance of humors. In order to cure the patient, the excess humor had to be removed from the body. Hence, bloodletting.

Squick.

"What it feels like?"

It doesn't feel like anything. At least until the anesthetic from their saliva wears off.

That said, the things still terrify me. Childhood phobia.
