Description

Reino Piratinĩnhũ São Paulo
Reino dos Campos de Piratininga de São Paulo
Reino de São Paulo

In 1640 Portugal became again an independent kingdom headed by a Portuguese, Dom João IV. Against this, In 1641, Spaniards pro-Spain in São Paulo acclaimed Amador Bueno as the King of São Paulo (former Captaincy of São Paulo, part of the Captaincy of São Vicente with the Captaincy of Itanhaém). Amador Bueno governed the new kingdom with the support of kingdom's Spanish nobles and from other neighbouring viceroyalties.

The conflicts of European Iberian colonizers against jesuítas and indians was the first problem of Amador Bueno's government. He recognized the freedom of the Indians and the actuation of the priests on the kingdom, and, for this, ceded lands to Iberian colonizers to explore and grow up the economy of the kingdom, promoting the black slavery, specially, at that time, on São Vicente and the near coastal villages.

The kingdom survived with direct diplomacy with Portugal and Spain, changing the support among the years and the new kings. The last king married a Portuguese princess, creating the House of Piratininga e Brangança with Hugo I.

The Kingdom of Portugal tried to reconquest São Vicente attacking and successfully conquering the Captaincy of Itanhaém. Other attacks were successfully on former regions of Porto Seguro, Espírito Santo, and near regions of Grão-Pará e Maranhão e Pernambuco, but it was never capable to reconquest the entire kingdom.

At the same time, Spain had difficulties to support the kingdom because the old Portuguese citizens didn't support its influence, thing that made Spain attack directly before and during the War of Spain Succession, expanding Paraguay and Bolivia.

A pact of non-aggression with Portugal and Spain was signed in 1719 after some years of war.
