Description
Yeah, here you get the proof for my ancient-historynerdness.I drew this in University during an ancient history lesson, because I think roman history is really funny and the nomination of the new emperor Claudius was one of the best scenes. After Gaius Germanicus' dead (better known as Caligula, but he hated the name), the praetorians ran through the palace, trying to find every friend of Gaius and kill them. Claudius, an old, limping and former "clown" of Gaius was hiding in a closet, watching the guards running aroud in the palace, shouting his name. At least they found the old frightened man and grabbed his shoulders. Claudius feared that his last moment had come, but... then he was nominated as new emperor. Whyever.
Meanwhile in the senate the senators were talking about going back to republic and leaving that emperor-crap be, when the door opened and a praetorian told them they had a new emperor. Claudius, Caligula's uncle. The senators looked at each other, shaked shruged their shoulders and went outside to celebrate the new emperor.
I laughed hard while reading this.
TRANSLATION: (my crappy latin is crappy, thanks for , who corrected a bit of it)
s: Gaius Germanicus (Caligula) is dead! Let's go back to republic!
s: we are happy! (lol)
----
p: We have a new emperor. It's Claudius.
----
s: Hail to the emperor!
s: hail!

The ironic is that we all would do the same so the guards wouldnΒ΄t kill us!
Loved the comic!

Best part is Claudius turned out to be a better emperor than half his predecessors (certainly better than Caligula and Nero )

The Spartans had two kings. I'm not sure, how it is called in english

Oh a double monarchy! Yeah it's interesting! I think what's really fascinating is the idea of electing a monarch
π: 0 β©: 1
CSupernova In reply to greekaholic [2010-10-04 16:44:45 +0000 UTC]
But they weren't elected, as far as I know. They were heirs of the kings, who necame next king.

Oh duh! I'm thinking of the wrong thing! It's an oligarchy not a double monarchy! Those are two different things!

Oligarchy is a forced leadership of many people. A kind of "bad" aristocracy.
