Description Once upon a time, a man fell in love. This is not so unusual. However, his love was not a woman, but a bird. Where would they live? He could not fly in the sky, and she would never be happy in a house.

So the man thought day and night, not moving, not eating. He stood so still that eventually, he took root and turned into a tree.

The bird now had a home, but no one to love.

***

Princess Tutu art. Yes, the combat ballerinas show. Finally got around to watching it, and... yeah. Surreal, pretty, and bizarrely awesome. Especially the oak tree scene, which I just had to play with.

It was actually very, very hard to design this one. I wanted to work more with the idea of the boy struggling against the oak, trying to dance with the girl. Getting the figures to fit together believably took LOTS of sketching and research. Cutting the paper was a breeze in comparison!

I really like how inspired by dance you are, and you always take advantage of the fluidity of cut-paper for it.

this is really good. even the little story. very touching and sad. i loved this scene as well and how you executed it in your artwork

although it would be better if you play with the color balance a bit so that it would look brighter. just a suggestion though

Oh, wow. I love the multifaceted...ness... of your artistry: writing AND traditional work. Except it's not the traditional norm, either (what with the cutting and matting).

Beautiful. I love the paper you used as background in particular.

Thanks! I love writing and creating images, so it's fun when I get to do both!

The background is actually two kinds of paper - a thin white overlay over a darker gray. It reminded me of fog or mist.

This is one of my favorite scenes from the anime, and I really like the little bit you wrote for this picture. The paper cut-out style is very wonderful and adds to the storybook-ish feel. Awesome job.

Wow. o_o This is the best piece of fanart I've seen all week. I love the creativity in using the paper media, and the textures!

p.s. For a few seconds I thought those were smudges of blood on Tutu's dress, then I realized they were pressed flowers on the paper. Amazingly enough, both interpretations would be appropriate to the show.

Wow, I LOVE the concept! (Out of curiosity, is that an actual story or did you make it up?) And your art style is very nice! I really love the composition overall. It looks like a book illustration or something.

CT02 In reply to amako-chan [2011-04-02 23:43:38 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much! I love working in this style, and was very happy with the balance of the composition.

The story I made up, but it wouldn't surprise me if a version of it already exists. There are no new fairy tales, after all. It just fit the image really well, and had that twist of the knife that the Princess Tutu intros love so much.
