Description
Created especially for and their Blood Soaked June. While it's often difficult to separate fact from folklore when it comes to the life of Edward Teach (1680? - 1718) ....who eventually came to be known as the notorious pirate Blackbeard ....there's no question about the manner of his death. Unlike other pirates, who either perished anonymously in small seaport towns,or suffered the indignity of succumbing to venereal disease,Teach died in battle...on November 22,1718,Lieutenant Robert Maynard,in command of the HMS Pearl, eventually engaged Teach. By accounts,it was a long,drawn-out battle but Teach finally went down. An examination of his body afterward revealed that,at the time of his death,he'd already suffered multiple gunshot and sword wounds. His corpse was beheaded, his body thrown overboard and his head was taken back as proof of his death.
Supposedly,Teach wasn't the murderous pirate history has made him out to be,but he was certainly among the most cunning, cultivating a fearsome image for himself,a major part of which was his long black hair and beard that would eventually become his name. I can only imagine that, even in the throes of dying,he still presented a frightening image.

Yeah, sometimes the victors make up glossed over tall tales to make themselves look more heroic than they actually where that's for sure. Poor Blackbeard
