Description I recently decided to sell off a bunch of pre-recorded cassette tapes I hadn't listened to for years;among them,I found some homemade tapes,in cases with art I created. These are from the early-to-mid 80's,all done with a hundred-color set of watercolor markers I used for many years.Like my Cher D'Flower collage,I assembled these with Picasa 3.
The two at the very top are collections of music, from records owned by my older brothers...the one at top right,DEFINITELY from the early 80's.
My high school music teacher introduced me to "Professor" Peter Schickele and his creation,P.D.Q. Bach, the supposed little-known-and-rightfully-so son of J.S. Bach, whose albums are hilarious collections of parodies of baroque music. He assembled a tape for me,and that's the art I created,lower-left-hand corner.
The one at center right is an attempted one-man comedy album, the first selection of which is me doing a questionable Rod Serling impression to bookend the story of Marvin and Zelda,a ghoulish couple who buy a house that turns out to be haunted...I got the story from an old issue of Marvel's CRAZY.Since I don't currently own a tape player,I don't know what else is on the tape, but I suspect it's just one other thing,a commercial for roofing shingles whose durability is tested by painting them yellow, putting them in "cheese" sandwiches, then giving them as lunch to a ravenous group of Canadian lumberjacks, who are unable to chew them.
At lower right is a store-bought collection of music from Walt Disney World;I can only assume it didn't come in its own case,so I provided one.
My older brother Jim had dozens of self-created taped collections of music, every one of which he'd put the words "HOME MADE",accompanied by an image of a warm pie,on the back flap;as you can see, four of these have variations on that.
