Something I wanted to create for the Fourth of July,a gathering of patriotic heroes from the comics....leading the way is,of course,Joe Simon and Jack Kirby's Captain America. Behind him to the right is Wonder Woman,created by William Moulton Marston in 1941...I wanted her to have her original costume for this. On the far left is The Old Soldier,from Kurt Busiek's Astro City stories. Supposedly alive for centuries,he only appears when war,or some great conflict that threatens mankind,breaks out...with the exception of the Vietnam War,he has sided with America in every instance. In the back is Martha Washington,first introduced in Frank Miller's Give Me Liberty miniseries...born into a future America gone horribly wrong,she fought many obstacles to freedom,including the Second American Civil War...her travels took her into deep space,eventually returning to Earth to "die".
I know there's many other patriotism-themed superheroes...I thought about including Uncle Sam (the Quality Comics hero,now owned by DC),but I decided to just stick with these four.
