Description
Alexander "Sawney" Bean was the (mythical?) head of a clan of cannibals that terrorized 15th/16th-century Scotland.
Making their home in a Bennane Head cave 200 yards deep,its entrance concealed by high tide,Bean,his wife and family of 46...many of whom were the product of incest...attacked and terrorized travelers on their nearby roads.Many found themselves dragged back to the hidden cave,eventually becoming food for the gruesome family.
When the Beans' activities were finally discovered,King James VI of Scotland assembled a party of 400 men,accompanied by bloodhounds,to seize and capture them.Upon doing so,they were taken back to Leith (or Glasgow?) where by royal decree,the male Beans were castrated,their hands and feet chopped off,then allowed to bleed to death.As for the female Beans,some were hung,while others were burned alive.
