Description
(Sorry, the full image is kind of large. xD)Banjo: What on earth is that?!
Kazooie: I think it looks like an enormous toilet cleaner.
Weldar!
I've wanted to draw this little fellow for ages, and only got around to it now. ^^
Though I HATED Grunty Industries with a burning passion, its resident visually-impaired welding torch certainly has his charms. xP
I mean, just LOOK at him. Aww... He's so cute, in a giant tank of hot gas kind of way...
And he goes along nicely with my theme of "Banjo-Kazooie characters that need to be drawn a lot more because they're so AWESOME. D:"
Oh, and speaking of themes... I was trying to pair this with a theme for my 100-theme challenge but I couldn't think of any that fit... D: Any ideas?

Is it weird that I actually love Grunty Industries? I'm just a sucker for industrial-themed anything. X3
Also, "little fellow" may be a bit of an inaccurate description of Weldar, but that's just me. XD

Welder was my most favorite boss in the game! I played his boss battle several times! the music kicks butt also!
grunty's industries was a good level, in fact it was one of my favorites! what sucks is how the level feels so depressing and I can admit it was an irritating stage.

YAY! WELDAR!
One of my favorite bosses from the game... up there with Terry and the dragon brothers... and you made him look so cute and non-menacing XD But see, the thing about Weldar is that I always imagined him to be a non-menacing type of guy anyway, he's just got a job to do, and it's his duty to destroy any bears/birds that get in his way...
I have an idea that he should come back in the new BK game, but he's totally rebuilt, with only his head being the same, as that was all that survived after all XD I think he should look like a dragon, with awesome wings and legs and everything, so he doesn't have to drag himself around, poor guy. I should try to sketch out my idea sometime, but I'm no good with mechanical stuff...
He had the most awesome boss music, it's true. Y'know, the funny thing about Grunty Industries is I hate playing through it, but I do think it's a very clever level... it really makes you think... it's like a big puzzle, where you have to unlock one part to get to another... so I respect it, but that doesn't mean I enjoy it XD Plus, trading the colorful and imaginative landscapes of say, JRL or HFP for the industrialized ickiness of GI, well, it's just a bit depressing, y'know.
As for what theme you could fit this with, I suggest "Trouble Lurking" or "Are You Challenging Me?"

CubieJ In reply to fluffycatgirl [2007-05-07 20:26:43 +0000 UTC]
Wow, that's a great idea. ^^ I can imagine a dragon-Weldar perfectly. I'd try to draw it, too, but I'm also terrible at drawing mechanical stuff. x_x It's really hard to design a robot if you don't know what pieces go where. XD
I found GI more frustrating than clever, personally. Because I kept getting scared out of my pants every time I walked into a room (security cameraaaas ._.), it was insanely frustrating to have to keep doubling back and opening new paths. That's why I tend to pretty much skip the entire level when I play BT. xD It scares the jibblies outta me.
And yes, it's also very depressing compared to the other levels. xD Kind of like Rusty Bucket Bay... I never liked that level, either. ._.

fluffycatgirl In reply to CubieJ [2007-05-07 21:12:56 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, RBB was the most annoying level in BK because of the dang engine room. Trying to get all the notes in there and make it out alive was a major pain in the butt. It was even more frustrating than having to scale the CCW tree, which is saying something!
Grunty Industries never really scared me, but maybe that's because I concentrated all my factory-based fears on Frantic Factory in DK64 when I was younger XD Now THAT place is frickin' creepy. GI is really no big deal compared to that place, with its freaky possessed Krembots and eerie music...

Hmm, I was thinking of Seeing Red, but it's kind of vague... All of my themes are really vague so far, though. I suppose the point is to think about the theme, and then draw the picture, not just try to relate the picture to a theme after it's done.
All well. XD

Ah well is right.
When I rented the game, the lady checking me out was like, "What, you haven't bought it yet?!"
"Um...no?"
As I was leaving, I thought I'd just ask...
"Um, why did you ask me if I'd bought it?"
"Well, you've been in here every week renting it!"
"What! This is the first time I've gotten it!"
"Oh. Nevermind."
I laughed. It was funny. Apparently, everyone else wants this game, too. Don't feel bad if you haven't played it yet. (do you have a Wii?)

Weldar was awesome! *was meaning to draw him too, but never got his body right* I remember, back in the days when Banjo-Tooie wasn't released yet, everyone thought he was a vaccuum because the only available screenshot of him had him dragging himself across the floor. XD Just like everyone called Mr. Patch "Patches" and thought that Klungo had a hammer. Ah, good times, good times...
He had the best boss battle music, and I agree with everyone, Grunty Industries does suck. Just to get to Weldar, you had to get Mumbo, perform a Mumbo spell, run to Mumbo's hut, get Banjo, go to Humba's Wigwam, transform, and step on the switch. And then you had to go fight Weldar. And then, he turns off the fan for the jiggy. JUST ONE JIGGY TOOK THAT MUCH WORK. D: Grunty Industries is the one bad level in a group of good levels.
You drew Weldar really well, though. He actually looks pretty happy, as opposed to all snarly like he is in the boss battle. I like the background too. ^^

Nah, I like a difference in opinions. XD
I just could not get the hang of that level at all. All the different floors and the batteries and the Skivvies and the unscrewing of the bolts and augh. Also that security would always scare me, and you couldn't turn it off for very long. And, of course, it had a first-person shooter minigame. I hate FPS's. *shakes a fist at Glitter Glutch Mine for having that TNT disarming level*
I myself have a tie between Cloud Cuckooland, Witchyworld, Hailfire Peaks, and Jolly Roger's Lagoon for my favorite levels. Quite a few people hate those levels for several reasons.

KingGiantess In reply to Turquoisephoenix [2007-11-26 01:58:52 +0000 UTC]
Just kidding.
The more complex and insane the level, the more I like it. A cross between Grunty Industries, Rusty Bucket Bay and Gobi's Valley would be nice. The security was too slow for me; I was gone before those flying zappy things could catch up. Only thing that drove me crazy was definitely Clinker's Cavern. AAAAAAAAAARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH.
But the welding torch luv and toxic waste luv made up for it.
I liked Witchyworld and Mayahem Temple too, but Grunty Industries was definitely my favourite.

Turquoisephoenix In reply to KingGiantess [2007-11-26 02:44:01 +0000 UTC]
Weirdly enough, Rusty Bucket Bay was my favorite level in Banjo-Kazooie and my least favorite level was Mumbo's Mountain for the opposite reasons. I hated Mumbo's Mountain because it was TOO easy, and you were completely done with it in one whole sitting.
I didn't really like the security because it was so loud, what with the siren and the sound of the floating tin-can robots. But I'm glad we can agree that the Clinker's Cavern SUCKED. I had to use the honeyback cheat to find the clinkers because I was too lazy to do it otherwise.

KingGiantess In reply to Turquoisephoenix [2007-11-27 22:36:17 +0000 UTC]
I sort of liked Mumbo's Mountain, but you're right- I could go through and clean it out in about fifteen minutes.
Then Rusty Bucket Bay took me about THREE DAYS. XD
Sirens and robots. Usually, those are pretty loud when put together.
I have NO sense of direction whatsoever, and I made my brother sit with the guide and tell me where to go.

Haha. xD Sadly, I wasn't around for the pre-release of Banjo-Tooie. I was still young... I think I only got BT in 2001, and even then, it was only after I finished the game and went looking for information on B3 that I found the Banjo-Tooie forum that was my internet home for three years.
So, unfortunately I couldn't partake in the gossiping before it came out. XD
But geez, seriously... All that work for ONE Jiggy? xD You get THREE Jiggies for beating Targitzan (who was probably the hardest boss for me, because I'm terrified of first-person shooters x_x) and you don't even get one Jiggy when you beat Weldar? Pssh.
All well, he's still awesome. It's just unfortunate that he ended up in such a cruddy level.

XD First person shooters scare the heck out of me, too. I tried to play the metroid prime games, but the gameplay mostly consisted of me freaking out and screaming at the vidoe game monsters not to hurt me and then spraying the room with shots...and then running away.
