Birdo is still canonically a transsexual male in Japan. XD America chickened and made her female because of the whole homophobia bullshit, but in Japan, she's still very much a transsexual. In fact, in the japan-only game Captain Rainbow, there's a plot/quest chain entirely about Birdo's gender. XD

Oy, disregard the last part about eggs, I got this confused with one of the many YoshixBirdo pictures. *facepalm*


Now that I've seen my error in the pairing... Yeah, even in the game, Popple was trying to get rid of Birdo, from what I've read (unable to play it). If it was translated from japan, I would think the transsexual thing is why Popple's running. XD

Wrong. The japanese were the one who made Birdo a transsexual man in the first place. America first went along with it in the manual, then changed their minds due to the whole homophobia thing and discomfort of having a transsexual in a children's game and began calling her a female in the rest of all american games involving her. (I call Birdo 'her' because it's polite to call a transsexual pronouns of the gender they want to be, not their previous gender.)

Birdo's not the first transsexual Mario character- Vivian from Paper Mario was strongly implied to be an ultra-feminine male who acts and dresses female to fit in with his sisters in Japan. For the same reasons as above, America made Vivian strictly female.

Japan continues to refer to Birdo as a gender-confused transsexual in their games. Just check out the Japan-only game Captain Rainbow, in which you meet Birdo after she's been arrested... for going into the women's bathroom. XD The game obviously regards Birdo as the transsexual she is. You rescue her by getting various items to 'prove' that she's a girl. (Including, strangely enough, a vibrator.) She repays you by calling you her boyfriend, lol. But yeah, Japan said Birdo was a man first, and still are calling her a transsexual, while America turned her fully female to sate the homophobes of America.

You need to do research yourself as well. Birdo was referred as a transsexual in Japan as well, so it wasn't America being confused or stupid. Are you homophobic yourself? If not, then I don't think you'd mind Yoshi being 'gay' with a pink dinosaur transsexual. They both lay eggs, I don't think they'd have any problems in the babymaking department anyway.

Anyway, I'm a bit confused if it were the Japanese or the Americans who made her a transexual. I found sources for both. But I guess tvtropes: [link] is accurate enough.

First I want to know why you sound so..attack-y like. I said nothing that would imply I would disagree with the Yoshi and Birdo pairing. I don't care much for the pairing, as it is, in my eyes, pairing the two dinosaurs. As I don't know much about these two characters as why they would be attracted to eachother I don't care much, but I also don't mind. (But if Birdo is mentally a female would that mean they are a gay-straight couple?)
Second I'd like to say that I made that comment 3 YEARS AGO and that I've become far more intelligent, smart and clever as I was back then. I called out ignorance while I was ignorant myself back then, so I was also hypocrite. To witness how much I've grown from back then really makes me satisfied though.

Yeah, I actually did about a hour of research on this in case all of the sites confirming Birdo's origin I saw was wrong... Nope, still right. :V I always do research when I use logic so I don't make a fool of myself. Someone tried to edit Wikipedia to say Birdo was definitely female in Japan, but Wiki noted after every sentence of this that there's no citation for it, therefore moot. Every other source that's not fan war said that Birdo was a transsexual.

Oh, I tend to snap at people that display willful stupidity and ignorance. Been surrounded by idiots like this all my life, just... got tired of pretending I'm the nice, pitying guy. Coddle retards, they stay retards. I used to be very nice and friendly, but over time, I noticed that the trend with adamant fans is that they shove their head up their ass when you try to apply logic. :/ Slapping them awake first may piss them off, but at least it opens their fucking ears. Ignorance is stupidity, not bliss... *sigh* I'm not Onizuka, but doing nothing feels wrong.

It was interpretation. You seemed very indignant about Birdo's supposed transsexuality, claiming it was a complete mistake by America (because America fucks up everything Japanese, rite? ...actually, I agree with this most of the time. Retarded dubbers.), while seemingly supporting the relationship. So I thought "shipper who doesn't want gay". I looked back though, and realized I mis-read it- you were supporting the picture itself, not the pairing, heh. Oops.

I LOVE that game! (Only thing that bugs me is that you can't skip the parts that are super hard, and it's a pain in the neck to try.)
