Hi, I'm really sorry for butting into this argument but I have something I would like to add.

I know everyone has their own oppionion and I'm not saying that you have to listen to me but I would like you to take my oppinion into account, for just one moment.

I know you may think that Christine is horrible and nasty and can't make he mind up, but you have to remember that she is very young and is brought up to be so innoccent that everything that happens to her makes her confused and scared.

I do believe that Christine should of stayed with Erik, I love them two together and even though I was dissapointed that she left with Raoul, I think I understand why she left Erik, this may not be true but this is what I think.

I strongely believe that Christine loved Erik more than Raoul, but because Erik made her feel these strange emotions that Raoul did not give her, she was scared, she couldn't over come them and didn't know why she was feeling that way towards Erik, these emotions were new to her and I think she didn't understand them as she is so young and innoccent.

She knew Raoul was safe and would protect her, she was in control of her emotions and feelings when it came to him. Even though she didn't desire him like she did Erik, at lest she knew what emotions she had and understood that it was a crush she had on Raoul, but didn't know how she felt about Erik.

And to top it off, the man who has been nothing but kind, caring and protective over her is about to get murdered by the man who makes her feel all of these unknown feelings. She was very young and was forced to make a life-changing choice.

I realy hope I made you understand, this is just my oppinion.

I still think Christine should have stayed with Erik but I do understand why she might have left. I don't hate Roaul, nor do I dislike him, I just think Erik shoud have been with Christine.

I hoped I helped :-D

I completely agree with your point. I actually like christine a lot in the book, its just the movie adaptation...or rather the actress they chose to play her...that i don't like.

I know it's none of my buissness and it's your own oppinion but may I ask why you don't like Emmy Rossum as Christine, I thought she was quite good and the best Christine I've ever seen considering she was only 16 when she filmed it.

(sorry, not good with spelling)

Cupcake-Apocalypse In reply to Duckito [2012-02-09 20:24:25 +0000 UTC]

I just don't care for her acting much and i thought they could have found an equally beautiful, equally talented singer who had more acting talent and looked like how christine was meant to look. I worked back stage at a production of Phantom of the Opera as a gopher and our Christine will always be who i think of as 'christine' and Emmy Rossum doesn't quite fit the bill.

Im not a big fan of spelling either so don't worry ^.^

I thought Gerard Butler as a fantastic Erik, but the only flaw is that he is too good- lookin' 'n' sexy to be a deformed man LOL

I get annoyed with Christine, especially after the Phantom sets her free and she just leaves... she should've said "NO! I'll stay with you!" that would've made him happy (':

Love the TARDIS in it xDD

Awesome! Abridged or unabridged? If you're reading it online then it's definitely abridged or if it's translated by De Mattos it's definitely abridged { he cuts out an entire chapter }.

Cupcake-Apocalypse In reply to ErikaLeroux [2011-07-27 21:01:51 +0000 UTC]

i believe its unabridged, and i'm loving it so far. I didn't expect to since it's quite different from my normal reading choices but its fabulous.

ErikaLeroux In reply to Cupcake-Apocalypse [2011-07-28 03:28:36 +0000 UTC]

Who's the translator and what's on the cover? I might be able to tell you whether it's unabridged or not just from that information. Even if you tell me the cover art I might be able to tell you. I'm glad you're loving it so far! It's definitely my favorite book and my most favorite version of Phantom of the Opera.

ErikaLeroux In reply to Cupcake-Apocalypse [2011-07-28 18:07:43 +0000 UTC]

{ long "boring" speech coming up lol }

Ok. You'll notice it says the editor { which in this case means translator as well } is Alexander Teixeira de Mattos. The de Mattos translation was the very first English translation that was done for the Leroux novel so a lot of times you'll see it marked as unabridged because most sellers automatically assume that if it's the first English translation it has to be unabridged { which would make sense but in the case of this translation they're assuming wrong }. Sadly the de Mattos translation is actually the most heavily abridged version { cutting out major chunks including an entire chapter }. It's a great translation for reading the book for the very first time but if you ever want to get an unabridged copy I highly recommend this one: [link] That translation is completely unabridged and written in modern day English. There are abridged versions of the translation I just linked you available as well but the copy I linked you is completely unabridged. So for a first read the de Mattos translation isn't too bad I suppose but if you ever decide after reading that one that you want an unabridged copy then I recommend the one I linked above. Also you can check for that copy on eBay if you want to get it as cheap as possible { just look for the book that has the same cover art as that one and you'll most likely have it }. So yeah.... The copy you have right now is great for reading it for the first time but if, once you read that one, you decide you want to read an unabridged copy than I recommend the copy I shared above. And then you can become Phantom crazy like me and buy a copy of each translation and even buy copies just because you love the cover art. lol

Cupcake-Apocalypse In reply to ErikaLeroux [2011-07-28 18:20:08 +0000 UTC]

wow. Thanks so much! why did they cut so much out of the translation?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ErikaLeroux In reply to Cupcake-Apocalypse [2011-07-29 04:05:17 +0000 UTC]

No problem! Supposedly the passages de Mattos cut out are the hardest passages to translate from the original text. So most likely he cut out the parts he cut out out of pure translator laziness. Thankfully though we do now have full unabridged translations so you don't have to go learn French to be able to read the entire text. lol
