The moment Speedwind turned from a sworn bachelor fish into a lover boy... pretty much right after he had declared that nothing would ever surprise him again XD
thus Speedwind.exe has stopped working...
And no, Rody is not looking at her ... he is listening to Mercury who was behind this
accidental meet cute (that he might tease Speedwind mercilessly about, if he wasn't too occupied with whatever he's babbling about)

I've commented a lot about your work, but it's worth repeating. Your colors are easily the best part of the image, with shades and tones quite perfectly blending in with one another. It especially stands out here, with the scales slowly turning into the more human looking flesh. It looks very natural. Amethyst's finds are especially pretty to look at, with the blue and purple mixed together, as well as the very glossy look that's given to it. Anatomy wise, everything looks pretty fine, and characters are naturally given good expressions.
The only nitpick I actually have may be Speedwind's stripes. They're not bad, but when comparing to one of your other images of the character, I noticed that the outlines of the stripe look way too sharp. Even when placed on the blue scales, it still looks more as if they were attached onto him, rather than being a part of him. I think they ought to be a bit softer to blend a bit more with the skin.
Other than that, it's a good pic. Great job.

Hi, i'm coming from ProjectComment.
I would like to start off with some praise. I, as a fish-human character lover, have to say you really did amazing mixing the features. I love how the scales continue up rather than stopping at the waist. I like how the fins on them are slightly transparent as well. Shading is lovely on the scales. It really stands out with the lighting (i myself struggle with this, so i praise the fact you did so well). I would like to see a bit more movement in the males' hair, though the girl I believe you did perfectly. The background is something to marvel, and I find it nice to see the characters popping out from the outline of the background. It helps them really stand out against the background's blues and greens once they hit that white border. I do feel as if the faces are a bit edgy in some areas (the cheeks and chins mostly) but I find it to work well with your style. Overall, I love the piece and can't wait to see more from you as you improve.

This is absolutely gorgeous! I LOVE the highlights on Amethyst’s hair and fins – especially the fins. They’re hypnotically ethereal, and they’re my favorite part of this picture. Her pale, desaturated eye color contrasts nicely with her vivid fins and hair, and helps her eyes to stand out among the gaze-grabbing colors around them.
Despite how jaw-droppingly beautiful Ame is, it doesn’t feel like she’s gratuitously sexualized compared to her male counterparts, which I appreciate.
Speaking of pretty fish people, I enjoy Speedwind’s pattern and his shark-like fins. His design gives the impression of a fast, powerful merman, probably a protector of his smaller and more fragile-finned companion, whose world-weary look adds a fun touch of humor to the situation and drops hints about his personality.
I have a few pieces of constructive criticism; hopefully you’ll find them useful. For the purpose of this comment, “left/right” refers to the viewer’s left or right, not the character’s.
1. Anatomy
Most of the anatomy looks pretty accurate, which is impressive when you factor in the foreshortening and all the hands. The only flaws I noticed were a spot on Ame’s right hand where the line on top of her thumb extends too far into her hand, and Speedwind’s right hand, where the first joint of the pointer finger looks too long.
2. Consistency
There are two parts of the picture that seem a bit inconsistent.
One is Rody’s wrist fins. When they’re in front of his scales, they’re partly transparent, allowing the scales behind them to be seen fairly clearly. But when they’re in front of the background, the rocks aren’t always visible behind them.
The other is the light direction. Some parts of Amethyst are lit from above, others from below. SpeedWind’s right arm is mostly unshaded, making it appear flat, and shadows are cast by some parts of the hair but not others.
All in all, I strongly suggest picking a light direction and sticking with it, and making sure everything that’s angled away from the light is slightly darker while everything that should cast a shadow does.
3. The water
The water behind Amethyst seems oddly chunky. I’m not sure what that pale, angular shape behind her is supposed to be.
All of those are fairly minor nitpicks, which I had to look closely in order to catch. The only reason I noticed them is because you submitted this picture to ProjectComment, so I was supposed to look for things that can be improved.
Overall, this picture is a thing of beauty with a touch of humor, and you should certainly be proud of it.

Ame and her breed are meant to be very gorgeous fishes - and aware of that, but Ame is more of a modest kind. While Speedwind obviously has eyes for her, she doesn't really think much of her own looks. Oh and Speedwind is actually based on a moorish idol fish, and while he isn't the biggest or strongest fish on the reef - he's definitely the protective type when it comes to his friends. Rody for one - mainly is bored in this particular scene.
Hands here were a bit tricky to me >8I I gotta keep an eye on those.
And you're right about Rody's fins, I didn't even notice I forgot to shade them to the end. And when it comes to the light source - the boys are actually outside the cave Ame is living in and she's in, hence - well you're right the light sources are random XD
The chunky thing behind her is supposed to be a rock formation.
