First off, a few disclaimers. This is not against people who think killing animals (for meat or sport or anything else) is unethical; I RESPECT THEIR VIEWS. Being pro-life, I feel I somewhat understand where they are coming from, even though I am overtly carnivorous.If you really want to help animals, help stop animal abuse and abandonment by volunteering at your local animal shelter. Those places need the help.
This is for morons who jumped on the wolf bandwagon that is oh-so-popular on dA.
That being said, THIS IS A RANT. DO NOT READ IT.
Why is no one concerned about saving moose or black-footed ferrets?!? Why is it always stonking wolves?!?!?! Is it because you all think wolves are cool and to not come off looking like a ridiculous poseur (too late) is to be environmentally conscious about them?! OR IS IT BECAUSE THEY ARE SO PRETYY?!?!?! do we only want to save pretty delisted animals and the ugly ones can go to hell?!?!?!?! WHY DOES NO ONE CARE ABOUT THE MANATEES?!??!?!?!?!?
IF you have, in fact, seen about $ 500,000 worth of your livelihood get dismembered and all you got was a dinky government subsidy, then go ahead! Let’s talk about wolves!
IF, however, you are living the comfortable city life, miles away from those stinky things that become your Big Mac, please be quiet until you know what you are talking about.
And yeah, a prize bull/heifer is worth about that much.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you are going to treat animals like this, treat all animals equally. It's absolutely stupid to favor one species over the others based off appearance.
And remember that John Barasso (WY-R) once said of environmentalist groups (based out of NY, CA, and other place where there is actually very little environment) “They wouldn’t know a wolf if it bit them.”

Beacause wolves are amazing they are cool, divine, and are killed way more than black-footed farrets and fricken mooses! I ablousley disagree with you, and if I were you I would be ashamed to but this STUPID, UNBELIVEABLE STAMP on dA, and I will not shut up about them! . Wolves are probly as rare as bald ealges! Why do so many people love wolves?! because they have purpose in life and they make the world one bit better and if it wasn't for them mooses would be OVER populated and eat all of the grasslands!! and same with any other animal it eats, it's a big part of the world and people in canada and russia are killing them because they are taking the wolves home and bring there livestock in to THERE HOMES! So those people have no right to even touch them because they were there first!

Black-footed ferrets are extremely endangered. Wolves are not. They're just feral canines that like to kill things because they can. Sure, they keep the population intact, but so do spiders, walruses, and every other creature that exists.

You are aware that bald eagles were classified as threatened from 1995 until 2007 when they were removed from the endangered species list, right? So you're probably right when you say wolves are probably as rare as they are ;> In fact I've seen several on my drives to work.
I also doubt that wolves are killed more than "mooses", especially since moose makes a pretty tasty burger. Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is maybe you should do a bit more research before running your mouth off... you're certainly not doing yourself any favors. So some people don't like wolves as much as you do- what's the big deal?

more specifically... why is everyone all about the grey wolf? I support helping wolves and am the founder of the largest wolf club currently on dA, but really. Even in just wolves, the red wolf... which people tend to ignore needs help more. Snow leopards need help, whales need help, there are even endangered plants!
Tunnel vision is always a problem, whether people are over focused on wolves, tiger, deer etc. In my mind its all about balance.

I agree with you but I think the facts is the world is having to much freedom, and just letting the world kill whatever they like! Why grey wolves? because they are one of the endangered canine lupus: along with the Newfoundland wolf, and the Red Maned Wolf! So there isn't just one. And there isn't just one thing thats needs support: Tigers, Eagles, Wild Horses, Walruses, Ant-Eaters, Polor Bears, Panadas, Black-Footed Feret, Nawhals, Mooses, Onyx, White Tigers! And Many More. But I support the wolf to the FULLEST, because they are treated like crazy man eateing killers that there NOT. And for all others that are treated like food and other horroiable things that not, but what they are, ANIMALS!!! Geesh Why should we kill them if they all have a purpose on this world, a world that ANIMALS CREATED!

Wolves aren't actully endangered and maned wolves aren't wolves at all actully. They're more related to foxes.
Wolves have it reletifly good actully. They are in the Least. Concern, Some populations of them become So big they damage the ecosystem and many people like them. You Wanna know an animal that is misunderstood? Sharks and snakes.

Yea the problem is there just isn't the space for all of the people and all of the animals, and space is going to get tighter. We have to think of how to preserve the most animals with this expanding population, and yea, hunting is a sport, but hunters value having game so regulated is in a sense preservation.

No one gives a shit about the bees in Britian, even though their numbers are decreasing, and if they were to die out, it would have a huge negative impact on the environment, due to them pollinating flowers. I'd rather save the bees over wolves anyday

If it wasn't for the fact that it would make me look like a HUGE hypocrite I would fav/collect this stamp. Yes judging from my name I do like wolves, have for years before the over dramatized popularity. However, I understand that their popularity is getting tiring, I'm slightly getting sick of seeing them all over DA and the media as a whole. Yes they WERE endangered, they aren't anymore, lets move on and concentrate on an animal that needs more saving like Polar bears, Iberian Lynxs, Clouded leopards, and so on. Basically if one wants to call themselves an animal lover, then perhaps we should think about animals that you don't see day to day. But anyway props for the stamp and despite my name I do agree about your popularity point of views about wolves.

I've been tempted a couple of times to make a community news board about how overly popular and list a number of different animals that aren't as known that need more help. Sure I don't believe in Alaskan aerial hunting, but I don't think that wolves should have top priority over all the others. I only wonder how they got so popular anyway.

I'll tell you why wolves are garnering so much more attention than any other species right now: The governments of Alaska, Idaho, and Montana and their respective genocides. None of the killing is done based on scientific data or even observation. One of the biggest reasons that wolves are as popular as they are is because for every person that loves wolves, there is someone who hates their guts. I have yet to see any other species on this entire Earth persecuted and murdered as the wolf has been. Most of the other well-known endangered species (Black-Footed Ferret, Manatee, Panda, Polar Bear, etc.) have become endangered through indirect means, such as reduction of habitat or global warming. The primary reason for the wolf's predicament is that mankind has killed them with reckless abandon for over a century, and that's just in the U.S. alone. Anyone with a computer can do the research to confirm this.
Maybe, if you think that other animals deserve our attention, a better way to go about this would be to make pro-active stamps featuring them.
