Lucas's "thank" expresses everything he felt when Disney (a company he hated more) bought him the rights to his creations and "raped" him. A bit like the South Park episode where the children cry and stop Spielberg with Lucas who bugg*rs a Stormtropper.

People can say whatever they want about the prequels but at least those bring a Lot of great characters and concepts to the SW universe, they never really ruined anything about the Original Trilogy.
But the Disney remakes Γ‘rea just downright insulting by literally throwing away all the canon and by being Nothing but a dumb remake of the OT, they just didnt care at all.

It is rather an impressive achievement.Β You'll think that a company that once made their bread and butter adapting fables would be familiar with the old tale of "The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs" and understand the adage it was trying to teach, yet here we are.Β Disney took one of the most beloved, recognizable and profitable IPs in the history of pop-culture and slaughter it.Β Furthermore, Disney managed to kill the goose and its extended family by declaring the entire extended universe as non-cannon and even the original trilogy by making everything Luke and company fought for null and void.Β
This is both a lesson and an opportunity.Β A lesson because this shows that beloved IPs should not be sold whole cloth to soulless mega corporation, it will end in disappointment and regret.Β An opportunity because, as much as I love classic IPs, I want to see new stories, characters and worlds to be given a chance to find an audience.
I wonder if Lucas' millions were worth seeing his creation and legacy being turned into a burning wreck.Β

Lucas knew he had created all there was to say about Star Wars...He probably knew Disney would feck it up...And they did.
The classics and the prequels (not to mention the expanded universe media) will always be there for the fans. These myths cannot die.
Every SW fan has their own enjoyment of the vast lore in comics and books, that would take years to consume and enjoy.
Disney and it's sad slaves can keep their weak exploitation photocopy of Star Wars...I'll play TIE Fighter and read Dark Empire.
