Description on the way back from somewhere off la cienega ... oh ... yeah ... it was from the lodge ... a swank steakhouse on la cienega ...

i take side streets to my agency office to drop off my work. it's kind of in the underbelly of hollywood-west. not west hollywood but the westside of hollywood. there's some type of public benefit organization in this area of grip and light rental houses, studios and other support-oriented businesses.

one sees many odd things. dumpster divers. transvestite hookers. other kinds of hookers i've not yet named or identified.

but ... i'm cruising down this street and i see an abandoned wheelchair. i slowed. reversed. and kinda checked the area. didn't see anyone. just a dark-ass street. lonliness. it was about 1.00a. i wondered how far someone could get if they were normally wheelchair bound. they obviously got pretty far as i didn't see anyone in the hundred yard radius i was looking.

again, i was rather afraid to ask what happened.

leica mp. 35/1.4 summilux. f/1.4. 1/30th. ilford delta 400 (pushed +2 to 1600).

*ILFORD IS FILM. THIS IMAGE IS ANALOGUE. THIS IS NOT A PS CONVERSION.*
*YES ... THERE IS SCANNER NOISE. I DON'T FRIGGIN' CARE. I'M NOT RESCANNING THIS ON MY PERSONAL SCANNER. IF I MADE A PRINT, IT WOULD LOOK COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.*

If people haven't already done so, I recommend full viewing this...really!! it is worth it.

Well captured....

I love this to bits because it really leaves you wondering what on earth happened to its owner. My God, it speaks volumes.

for me!

hey, I've just gotten back into black and white film. I've noticed that you always use ilford delta, is there any particular reason you choose it over other b/w films?

oh and I really dig this peice. full view is a must.

i know that delta scans very nicely for the most part. scanning b/w negs is difficult.

i'm experimenting with elke films as the shape of the crystals is more circular than other films like t-max and the like.

when you're making your money by making photos one chooses equipment that is tried and true ... film is part of the equipment equation.

thank you so much! glad ya' like it!

ahhh...for scanning. I didn’t even think of that.

I have a roll of ilford delta 100 in my camera right now. I usually use tmax because it’s readily available here. I must admit I bought the ilford just because you seem to like it.

love to see your results with the elke films.

I love the pure randomness of this. Great capture. I know you're not going to rescan just for us, but I'd love to see the origial. The combination of your leica and th illford make for such lovely tonaity and such subtlty in the shadow details. It's the stuff my dreams are made of! Great work my man!

It really scares mate!

There comes a time when you just have to get up and walk, or at least give it another try.

I hope that whoever owned that chair, was able to get up and walk away.

Having lived 3 months that way, and adapting my life, my home and my world to it, it strikes close to home.

My life is still adapting, but I'm no longer in the chair. I can even walk without the cane for a bit, with only a slight limp... if I focus my mind to it. Physical therapy and genuine stubborness have carried me a bit further than I'd expected. Still a long path ahead.

Great shot on this one, my friend. I love the light in it.

the light and just everything around it was what got my eye.

i hope whoever walked away as well.

glad you're not in one any longer too!

Strangley, the first thing that came to mind for me was a very "leap of faith" moment.
Even more oda thought, as I am not a very religious person, this picture would make
a great Jesus Revival Propoganda book. I can imagine "Jesus was ere" graffitied on
the wall behind the wheelchair

OK time to play some King Missile "Jesus Was Way Cool"

Great capture

That's....weird.

Who knows why there's a wheelchair abandoned in the street like that? I think something probably happened too. We'll never know.

In the meantime we got this interesting looking picture, that to me, depicts both normalcy and the strange. Nice work.
