Is there any magic formula when it comes to selecting shadow colours as it's something that I find really difficult for it to look right (which is why all my stuff is flat)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cyberbirdy In reply to andart [2008-07-20 13:09:56 +0000 UTC]

oh I am not sure .... but there are various things that may help, I know a lot of people who use black, set to 20% opacity...
For me I am just trying arround untill I think it is fine :3 mostly I move the cursor on the colour chart, slightly right and a little bit down to get the colour for the shadow...

oh there are also preset colour charts like -> [link] or [link]

hope I was able to help you a little bit :3

andart In reply to Cyberbirdy [2008-07-20 15:09:52 +0000 UTC]

I've actually used that 20% opacity technique before [link] which i did last year. At the time I didn't think much of it. I now think it's just the image I was creating which it didn't work on. Those colour charts look quite good.

I use Illustrator so it's not the technical side I think I'm having problems with which make everyone else's work look so much better than mine. I've been spending a lot more on my sketching this past week, I'm starting from the beginning so to speak

You've been a great help thanks

And the picture you showed included nice shadows so I think you can handle this easy

I've seen my boyfriend use this same technique, but I always just added anchor points in a line shape to make my lineart (Which takes ages)
This will definately help improve my lineart, thanks alot!
