Description
First time I had seen one of these extend it's dewlap.Green iguana.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Coral Gables, FL.

they will externd their dewlap either to catch sun or to communicate. Maybe it was telling to be cautious

Yeah, he only did it after I sat there for a long time. Every time I moved a bit to get closer, the dewlap would shrink again, till I was sitting still long enough for this shot

Lizards are pretty shy but unlike most critters if you're slow moving usually they wont find you threatening.

Yeah, still a lot of the iguanas we have here will jump into the water when you are like 100 feet away
Anoles I can usually get close to

Thanks, I thought so too. I Take lots of pictures of anoles with their impressive dewlaps, but this was the first time I had seen an iguana extend theirs.
