Description
So Two Things: I can't color you should've seen this sketch in its glory. There was supposed to be great lighting and then everything just turned out dark and plain. The ground had an orange undertone mixed with brown and white to show the difference between where the light from the window hit and where the shadows were and now it just looks like mud and isn't light enough. I am stressed.Second thing: This is the first HARPG horse I created and I thought "Oh I don't need to look at his ref I know his design so well" I FORGOT HIS OTHER SOCK. So yeah it's been a struggle and I'm not happy.
MOVING ON.

Rising Star Farm's 2017-2018 Winter Show - RESULTS
Show: Rising Star Farm's 2017-2018 Winter Show - OPEN!
Horse: SS+ Malevolent Daemon++++//*
Handler: Kaitlyn Morgan
Story: Word Count= 794
Not far away from Warrior Fields Equestrian Center in Pennsylvania was a show being hosted by Rising Star Farm. It was cold and this year's show string was getting back into shape. Under the watchful eyes of Kaitlyn and Adam the farm was doing well. Adam sat Ashleigh down and showed her the information for the upcoming winter show.
"I think we should take Malevolent Daemon and then retire him after this."
Ashleigh sat their quietly thinking about WFEC's patriarch and how he was turning 20 this year.
"One more year?"
"No, Kate, we have other horses we need to focus on. He's our most attractive stud right now, let's focus on advertising him and use him as WFEC's ambassador. We can focus on his get and make him even more attractive. We have some young stock by him I'd love to see out there in smaller halter shows between trainings"
Kaitlyn sighed. Adam was right the farm was becoming so much to handle. They had so many horses that needed to be shown that Malevolent Daemon was worth more to the farm as a stud than as a show horse. And it would keep the risk of injury low as he aged. At 20 though the stallion still shined in the spotlight and just soaked up all of the attention. She started thinking about him being an ambassador though and coming out to show how great of a stallion he was as her assistant rather than her mount. She could get him a new blanket and they could travel. Kaitlyn looked down at the table.
"Okay, I'll start working on a new blanket"
Adam, confused but knew better than to ask, nodded. "Think about what horse you want to show this year. We have Calee who is in desperate need of a consistent rider and we need to hire more staff we are up to almost 50 horses".
Kaitlyn leaned back in her chair. They had just sold a handful of their younger show horses and broodmares to make room for some big name youngsters in training. One of sales was Adam's gelding Aalimaar and Kaitlyn had been shocked he'd agreed to sell him. The gelding was a dynamite show jumper and if it wasn't for Adam Aalimaar wouldn't have been given a second glance by Kaitlyn and the rest of her team. She knew Adam missed him and was trying to figure out what horse he would take on next as his mount and project. Melody, their western trainer, kept pushing him to take on Damathat or Mister Distant but he just hadn't clicked with them like Melody had hoped.
A few days later, their late halter entry was loaded up for the ride to Pennsylvania. The stallion was the easiest horse Kaitlyn had ever handled. He was the temperament and build that WFEC wanted to breed and show forever. Kaitlyn loved this horse more than every other horse on their farm.
Quietly they arrived to Rising Star and she unloaded the stallion and prepared him for their early morning class. The sun had just broken over the horizon and put a soft red glow around the arena as the birds and the sound of hooves was all that Kaitlyn could hear. Malev was groomed and ready to go. The light from the windows in the arena gave his mane and coat a soft glow from behind as he walked. The winter season was represented indoors with a large tree decorating the center. The deep green stood out against the light oak panels. The window closest to Malevolent Daemon was framed by a snow covered tree and on it. Kaitlyn noticed there was a small red cardinal enjoying the break from the grey sky and sitting in the early rays of the sun. Kaitlyn loved birds and enjoyed watching the small red feathers stand out against the white that surrounded him.
The judge brought Kaitlyn's mind back to the arena as they walked over to look at her stallion. The Arabian's large gentle eyes watched them and Kaitlyn attentively waiting for his cues as he walked slowly in front of them his head lowered to show of the arch of his neck and the correctness of his back and tail carriage.
It was bitter sweet to think of this as their last show together, but Kaitlyn was excited to see what the future held for her and her farm. They'd come so far since the first show Malev and her had entered years ago when he was just a young thing and she was just trying to prove herself with a barn full of untried Arabians. Kaitlyn smiled and nodded as the judges thanked her and moved on to the next horse.

Even though you're not happy with the end result (traditional is tricky af), I really like how it came out <3
That window was such a nice touch, too!

This fellow gets more gorgeous every time I see him. Sad to see him retiring, though he has a lot of promising kiddos to step into his shoes!
