You know I love simple character CG's. Well, maybe you don't but I've done VERY simillar characters and even animated them.
As for critique, I think the feet need a sphere as well, to make it even. Otherwise, it's nifty.
Did you render in the default max renderer? Looks like a Brazil R/S setup to me.

I use the default renderer. Scanline. I do have Brazil but I like the light-tracer rendering in default.

Did you use Maya for this? how did you get the other to be blurry, looks really cool btw.

rendered in 3dsm 5.1, I used "depth of feild" w/ 18 passes, and touch-ups in Photoshop.
