Description
Here is a short demo of how I colored Ariel Keane on Photoshop.

1. Sketch: First, I made a sketch of the character on paper and then scanned it onto the computer.
2. Outline: Next I traced over the outline of the character using the Pen Tool on Photoshop and erased some of the line edges or corners to avoid evens in the work.
3. Color: Next I added color under the outline on a separate layer.
4. Colored Outlines: I gave color to the outlines because I felt it gave the character a more animated look and feel.
5. Shading: I added shading and a cast shadow on the character on another separate layer to give the character a more three-dimensional look. If I didn't have that, she would look rather flat!
6. Final: Add a background and Voila!
