yes, it has been farrr too long since I've drawn my two Somburst kiddos. or any of my MLP nextgen kiddos, for that matter. so i'm continuing my universe expansion once more
(on another note, i feel really good for posting so much today :>)
1. "You're a fucking idiot. I love you."
Sunstar and her dumpster fire of a brother, Broken Heart.
surprisingly, their original designs still hold. i thought after a while that I would have changed their designs (I don't normally like black and red color palettes, or similar palettes. just too edgy for me tbh), but nope! i still love them.
I did fiddle around with Brooke a little bit. gave him little sideburns, because there's no way in hell Sombra's kids wouldn't have at least one feature of his glorious facial hair. I also edited his horn colors a little bit as more of a break between the red and gray. i might make his hooves the same color later on, maybe his eyes if I'm feeling adventurous.
I'd like to think that Sunstar is the most like their ginormous father, and is significantly larger than her brother, and bulkier, too. she's the enormous draft horse, while Brooke is the thin, elegant Arabian. i wanted their looks to contradict their personalities; Brooke is a fighter, while his sister is a lot friendlier and cuddlier.
(funny how I write so much about their body types without even displaying them haha XD)
anyway, they love each other. Brooke gets into a lot of fights. Sunstar tries her best to keep him out of trouble so as to save her parents the stress. sometimes, tho, she's a bit too lazy or busy to brute force it, and can only 'discourage' her brother (normally by insulting him, as many sibling relationships tend to go). sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
2. Sombra half begging, half threatening his son not to fuck up some big political event.
Brooke tends to have a loud mouth, and often spices up all of his parents' royal galas with his drama. he starts fights, too, as usual. eventually, Sombra gets fed up with his shit, and is a lot less lenient on the rules, sometimes even restraining his magic when his son is in a bad mood.
Brooke and Sombra don't get along very well...
3. here is where things get interesting.
Prince Kairos, son of King Discord and Queen Twilight, loves Finale Cake, daughter of Trixie Lulamoon and Starlight Glimmer.
Prince Valentine 'Broken Heart' Amore, son of King Sombra and Prince Sunburst, is married to Princess Royal Tangerine, the daughter of Celestia
however. there is an issue.
Brooke doesn't love his bride.
don't get him wrong. Royal and Brooke get along well, and are good friends with each other. but their marriage is political. nothing more, nothing less. he doesn't see his wife as anything more than a close friend.
he sees Prince Kairos, however, as something much greater.
to cut it short, Brooke loves Kairos. but Kairos doesn't love Brooke.
Sombra is capable of seeing connections between ponies. as Cadence has the ability to shape and grow emotions, Sombra has the ability to see these emotions and the webs they create between ponies. as such, he's known for quite a while that his son has an enormous fucking crush on Prince Kairos. problem is that he already has a terrible relationship with his offspring, and really doesn't want to upset him any more than he has by telling him that he 'knows all his secrets' (which is essentially what Brooke would interpret out of his father telling him that he knows about his secret crush). so he doesn't say anything.
Royal Tangerine, however, doesn't need the same ability to see that her husband has eyes for someone else. he doesn't even try to hide it.
Royal doesn't feel attracted to Brooke, either. she feels the same way about him that he does about her; he's her best friend. as such, she wants nothing more than to make him happy. and he obviously isn't happy being married to her. but they can't get a divorce, because then the political ties between Sombra's kingdom and Twilight's kingdom would be severed.
so she compromises.
she decides to have a private chat with Finale Cake, and manages to convince her to try a more open relationship. both of them know that Brooke is a miserable pony on his own, and could use just a little bit of leeway to make him a little less of a bastard.
so they loosen up on the reins, and work secretly together to push Kairos and Brooke together...
4. a while ago, on Sunstar's first refsheet, I said that she had a cutiemark. but i never drew it. so here is the first concept.
(Brooke doesn't have a cutie mark. I might give him one later, might not)
6. moving back to the whole Kairos/Brooke situation...
Kairos approaches his father anxiously on a beautiful summer afternoon. Discord is completely finished with his kingly tasks, and sits reclined across a plush chair, observing the city below from one of his palace's many open balconies.
Kairos approaches him, catches his attention, and tells him something.
it takes his poor, astonished father a few seconds to realize that he's just told him that he may or may not be pregnant.
he responds, quite boisterously, with "Aha! That's a laugh, my dear."
...right as realization overtakes him when Kairos' face tells him that it is not a joke.

so yes. Kairos and Brooke fell in love.
yes, Kairos gets pregnant (he's a draconequus. Discord carried both Interrobang and Hephaestus, so it runs in the family)
and yes, the child is Brooke's.
this was a complete surprise to everyone involved. Finale, Royal, Brooke, and Kairos were all involved in some kind of weird herd relationship that they'd kept a secret pretty well thus far. however, their secret would eventually get out when Kairos later came to give birth to a child that clearly was not Finale Cake's.
Discord was the only royal aware of their herd. he was very supportive of them, and working hard to help them keep it all a secret. however, he became worried not only for them as a group, but for his son. Kairos was young for a father, and Discord wasn't entirely sure how to show him the ropes. he could only try his best.
