Description
The project for this ship was lead by Miles O'Brien and was partially based on his experience working on DS9. It is designed to test and compare new and old technologies from different backgrounds, looking for compatibility issues and finding ways to resolve them. It features the unique registry of EX-0001 because of it's unique purpose as an engineering and operations testing ship (though it is a functional starship, this is for testing purposes only).

The ship is very minimalist, with the plasma conduits exposed on the hull surface, both to save space and to allow easy access for maintenance. There are also various interchangeable and jettisonable modules for loading in different technologies, each fitted with a variety of connections. Main engineering is located in a pod at the back of the ship, which can be changed out for different warp core sizes and designs, including ones for holding designs like the Romulan singularity core. Even the nacelles are modular and can have different collectors and coil assemblies fitted. The design allowed the ship to simulate a variety power draws for larger ships as well as specialised systems to simulate weapons power draw fluctuations without any actual weapons. And it has extensive internal sensors for monitoring a variety of potential problems and issues that might occur, including some that might be extremely rare for a normal ship, but more common when intentionally mixing and matching technologies.
