Description
Developed in the 27th Century, the Polygon class was a unique design. The ship is 359m in length from fore to aft nacelle tip and it's spaceframe is simplified with a primarily hexagonal influence, as well as being heavily reinforced against subspace stresses. The ship is equipped with a Mk3.5 Spiral Induction core and unique dual phase nacelles (so it technically has 4 nacelles, 2 per pylon). These dual phase nacelles are designed to create a more stable subspace field for sustained flight at transwarp velocities to assist the ships primary mission profile. The primary mission profile of this class is a transwarp mapping ship. The ship is designed to use transwarp to traverse the galaxy mapping out the real time locations of star systems and to navigate transwarp corridors created by the Borg. As such it is equipped with an advanced deflector tuned to easily open Borg transwarp corridors as well as other types of subspace corridor that have been reported. Due to the dangerous nature of exploring Borg corridors and other potential hostiles outside Federation space, the ship has an advanced cloaking device loaned by the Romulan republic.
Lore/Trivia: These ships had a long service life, lasting into the late 28th / early 29th Century, as such this example has had the phaser panel upgrade (also the hexagonal panels just felt like they suited the ship).
