Description
Okay so... I randomly cracked open lightwave last night and started with a box. Wasn't sure what I was going to make, but six hours later this was the result.Just a test render of a flat shaded model. When i get inspired again I will begin texturing it and will eventually build an environment for it.
If you have any questions or comments feel free.

Nice mech, I think the upper legs are fine (having seen a lotta those japanese mech models you were talking about), thats just the style it uses, with the larger bottom legs/feet (where else we gonna stick the bootrockets) hahahah planning to texture this?
Do me a favour and check out the mech in my gallery please, I'd appreciate some comments from a fellow 3d artist. Thx!

Much appreciated feedback.
I have to agree with you. After I read the comments about the upper legs I went to my toy collection and looked at all the mechs I liked best and almost all of them had something similar for the leg structure.
And boot rockets... Yeah! I'll build some on the next round.

the upper legs are bothering me, they feel thrown together compaired to the rest of it. i love the head.

Hm...
Interesting comment.
While I don't agree, I'd like to hear more about why the upper legs are bothering you.
The construction of the quads was something I spent some time deciding on and the more organic shape of them was because of two things:
a) they needed to swivel in a socket and b) they needed to look like they could support the weight of the mech.
As it stands I have a pretty large collection of japanese toys and my favorites almost always employ a similar design.
What would you suggest as an alternative?

it looks like you just extruded some shapes, just a little more detail mabye like some of the rest of the mech has some pannels, mabye something of that sort, it just seemed a bit too smooth in that area.

Yeah, it is not as ... sharp and "tiny detailed" as the rest of the mech.
I didn't notice that at first, and it dosn't really but me, but I see your point. What does kind of get me is the amount of ..umm... nipple guns on its' chest/shoulder area. I think the ones closest center would be in the way of the big gun.
Over all though I think it works pretty well.

And perhaps a little clarification on my comment [above], it is not that the upper legs lack things [shape, objects, pipes, actuators, etc], it is just that the angles seem "softer" then the angles on the rest of the model, more rounded.
Oh, and I just read your sig, I like it!

I see.
Hm... I have an idea.
I'd be happy to email both of you guys this model if you like.
I'd love to see what you guys came up with as an alternative.

wish I could, but all I have is blender [looks at wallet, thin, neglected wallet]. I would love to see what becomes of it though.

Hehe...
If you thought this was a photograph... it's a hell of a compliment as it's actually a render.
If you didn't and you just meant nice composition... thanks!
