I felt like the new one was even a little open for a sequel... I just wonder what creatures they would add in next time.

But all the origonal monsters are pretty artificial looking. They managed to pull of Godzilla and still make it work, but I really don't see how Gigan could.

All they would need to to do is make his metal parts seem like organic bone. The Trendmasters toy line made Gigan like that some what. Or give him actual real grasping claws as apposed to hooks. They already said they'll be adding in Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah for the sequel.
