PLEASE, ignore the faces in the top images. Those were my first times drawing him, and I hadn't worked out all the tweaks.Obviously, the bottom half is much better, and that's all that really matters.

You seem to be able to make sense out of the insanity that is Kingdom Heart's plot, so help me out here. Xehanort became a special heartless because he did so out of his own will, which allowed him to speak and think like a normal person could. I always thought that his little rantings about the heart's nature and how darkness is the best thing since sliced bread was what all heartless, subconciously or no, believed.
But I'm not confused about him, it's the situation with Scar that sort of baffles me. Right before Sora and the gang fight Scar, he becomes a heartless. Then during the fight against him, he speaks a little. It's the whole Scar's ghost thing that complicates it. There is one scene where the ghost does seem to talk, so does that make Scar a special heartless? Later we see that the whole thing was caused by a giant, masked baboon riding an even more giant...rhino thing. Does this mean that Earthshaker was a special heartless?
Say that I overthink things if you want, or you could say that wasn't apart of the main plot, so it doesn't have to add up. Am I just forgetting something?

Scar willingly became a Heartless, so he retained his consciousness. But the Earthshaker was merely using a fake army of "Scar Ghosts" in order to fill Simba's heart with doubt and make him into a Heartless as well.
The intelligence of the lesser Heartless is extremely questionable, but the tactics some use sure are brilliant. Or maybe they're simply being ordered around by Maleficent?
