Description
Many thanks to Panamaniaxxx for the inspiration for this one. The "Skullcracker" is an unholy mash-up of Lee-Enfield, BAR, Delisle Carbine and M1 Garand. And also a tape-deck... (I'll make another one with NV and an elongated muzzle--w/o Delisle component)Due to this weapon's use of abundant phoenix naptha ammunition, a bolt--which can also be used for impromptu breech-loading--is needed to fill the firining chamber with air prior to firing. A firing penetrates the resin of and exposes Phoenix Oil within the rear of a projectile to air within the chamber, causing it to rapidly oxidize back into its natural state--flame--and propel the projectile out the barrel of the weapon.
Magnesium-nitinol fins on the rear of each projectile, supplied from one of KORRIGAN's many Underforges are guided by aetheric-powered laser aiming modules networked into the weapon's scope and targetting computer which is attached to the stock of the carbine within a small satchel. Users are asked not the respool unwound tapes by hand as the tapes are quite fragile and require use of proper re-spooling equipment.
In .577 APEX and Skullcracker Cartridges, upon reaching a set distance or impacting within a target, additional congealed Phoenix Naptha near the tip of the weapon creates a secondary conflagration/explosion and, in the case of Skullcracker cartridges, propels additional ceramic memory metal fragments which twist and expand to many times their original size due to heat activation from kinetic impacts and exposure to oxidizing naptha, inflicting gruesome injuries upon anyone struck by the fragments and anyone attempting to provide aid.*
However, things happen just a bit differently in .577 APHID cartridges. Consisting of an explosive shell containing a single unique instance of Eigengrau or "Intrinsic Gray" siphoned from an artificially occurring Eigengrau cluster and force-fed a constant flow of/and often conflicting confluence of aetheric resonance is detonated; leading to the eruption of an Aetheric Cascade Event within a 500M radius of the impact site, affecting all local Eigengrau within the area, shorting technology and making magic-use within the area unstable--often leading to lethal consequences. APHID cartridges are aetherically primed on the fly by carbine's Construct to start the initial stages of a resonance cascade event. Once charged, APHID shells will always decay into a cascade event. As such, Users are cautioned against frivolous usage of Aetheric Resonance Munitions in the field of battle.
*It should be noted, that all memory metal munitions were outlawed from most battlefields of Sydonia and the Paller-Vallan Empire due to the gruesome nature of the weapons, the use whereof often makes surgical operations on victims of the weapon nigh impossible to conduct, posing just as much risk to anyone attempting to provide aid and/or foolish enough to ettempt to surgically remove the fragments. Use of powered armor is highly recommended if attempting to remove a skullcracker without the aid of a Construct.
