that one text that changes. I thought I was just seeing Reality shifting again. Gold standard trolling.

Hahaha, I'm glad someone noticed that! Exactly what I was going for.

Wait a minute. That sphere is made of BLOOD?! I wouldn't be surprised if a certain infamous movie starship made a appearance.

Blood like substance. Not actually blood, for the most part.

Knowing Daemoria, this is going to end very badly for the crew.

That is a pretty much assured route for this story, true.

Is a mirror based anomaly even perceivable from local space? sort of like how we can't really see a black hole, we just guess based on it's accretion disk. Only in this instance the debris from the anomaly is the flotilla of green ships. (motherhsip and shuttles/corvettes?)
Also, it was mentioned somewhere that 4 field skimmers were lost before psycomp gave up/decided to try a new tactic. Which one is this?

Either way, brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "blood bowl"

Daemoria In reply to HugoBorchardt [2016-01-20 23:19:59 +0000 UTC]

The edge of the anomalous space would probably be filled with random EM noise. The Mirror is raw potential future/past events, so looking at its extrusion into local space here would just fill your sensors with a bunch of garbage. The noise would get stronger and stronger as the depth increases, i'd imagine. Looking at an edge would be 'easier', and looking at the derelict hulls that are sticking out would be just fine.

Anything past a certain depth would be covered in too much EM noise or 'fog' to make it readable from the outside. The best way to figure out what is in there is to actually go in. Sort of like storm chasing aircraft and cars.

Of course, that brings extra risk... as this crew is about to find.

Thanks! Yea, the first frame is probably going to be kept as is. The 3rd and 4th panels need some work for the final versions.

I can't confirm, nor deny the validity of how closely related the two events are. Word on the streets... they're somehow different.

Hey, this crazy space-warp thing eats ships and kills people for no apparent reason... let's all go inside!

... this is a great idea, there's no way this could end badly for any of us...

These PsiComps looks far to relaxed for folks about to be shredded into tiny little pieces... and even though the pieces don't have independent respiratory systems/vocal chords/minds... each individual piece will die screaming in pain and horror... because Sherôdan-Yinda says so. It's like Simon says... only the 'orders' are mandatory and 'physical impossibility' has no meaning.
...although if the 'slippery tentacle' under the girl in the lower right (wearing the blue visor) is any indication, at least one of them knows the proper way to prepare for immanent horrible death

... I really, really like it. I also really like the subtle difference between "immanent" and "immanent"... but that's a personal problem.

Hey guyyys, what do you want to do today?
Oh, what's that? Fly towards that 32 kilometer large sphere of blood floating in space, with bits of spaceships sticking out of it? I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING TOO!

(And that is how you get everyone on board the murder-train)

Glad someone spotted the Plug's hookup cabling.

DBrentOGara In reply to Daemoria [2016-01-19 17:10:00 +0000 UTC]

I didn't realize it actually looked like blood from the outside... that's pretty sweet!

... a quick bit of math shows that a perfect 32K diameter sphere of blood is the volume found in 3,432,000,000,000,000 'average' human beings... I can't imagine where she found three and a half quadrillion people to exsanguinate... oh wait... Mirror etc.

Everyone aboard the murder-train to crazy town! tOOt Toot!

I spend my life spotting 'things'.

The actual composition of the field is a mixture of baryonic matter (something like nanomachine doped molecules, resembling blood) and non-baryonic fields. This combined material is the consciousness of the Metatek entity. Literally, the mind of a machinegod(dess). Not quite on the same scale as Marvin, but we can't all be depressed androids, after all.

I just remembered I have a few commissions to  quickly knock out, but I'll be drawing the 'graveyard' of ships and debris that fill the interior of the field. It's going to be some spoopky stuf.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DBrentOGara In reply to Daemoria [2016-02-04 14:42:25 +0000 UTC]

I like baryons... they make up all my favorite things. Nano-doping your (not-quite)blood-mind will get you kicked out of the Tour de France, but I'm sure it's fine for Metatek entities... after all they ate France (and the rest of the Milky Way Galaxy) before they were even born. Paranoid-Depressive androids (with minds the size of a planet and a pain in the diodes all down their left side) are not what I follow you for... so you're golden there.

I hope you commissions went/are-going well, and I look forward to more awesome spooky stuff!

Nice work! I like the ship designs and scene compositions.  I also like those tentacle-like cables on the bridge.  Super handy for keeping your crew snug and secure in all types of gravity.

First inclusion of a Plug in an actual story. And members of PsiComp, for that matter as well.

Mature Content

The cables are the Plug interface conduits. They slot into the Plug's suits and body. I imagine they have some fiber-like muscle so they can guide themselves, and keep the Plug fairly stationary. The rest of the crew have to maneuver with their own tentacles if they have them, and general experience in operating in zero gravity environments.

That last panel is probably going to be heavily modified when I get to the full illustration, I'm not liking the sense of depth. I need to add some foreground cabling, I think. The basic idea for that panel is sound though.

Thanks, once again Alexi, for the great comment.

Those cables are for direct input/output data streams, use of them for extracurricular activities (group or solo) is frowned upon.  If you notice any of your fellow crew members misappropriating them, be sure to provide ample video footage!

This predates the Manifestation image by some indeterminate length of time. That vessel is the first Field Skimmer classed ship dispatched to learn about the anomalous field.

At this time, the PsiComp has decided to take a hands on approach to the investigation. This later changes, after they lose 3 Skimmer vessels.

But that's all in the future. Here, we explore the adventure of the first Field Skimmer's crew. I hope it'll be a delight to all ages. :}
