I like the style on this one, very informative for something that simple

Interesting, how did the Martians become hermaphrodites? Was the process Artificial or Natural through evolutionary pressures?Β

Daemoria In reply to Zarmarza [2016-05-20 12:41:16 +0000 UTC]

Not hermaphrodites. Attack helicopter. :y
---
They're all clone flesh, adapted to fit the partially terraformed Mars. Gender is a bit superfluous, when they don't give birth to offspring.

So how exactly did they start?

Heheh, I'm thinking you're getting it now.

I don't really have a back story for the Mars, Jovian, or even Earth/Luna peoples. Right now the setting is a collection of images alone. The story is pretty nebulous, so I won't bother attempting to make it make sense for now.Β

I see, but is it connected to the "Bright Future" verse? Or something stand alone?

Nah, not related to Bright Future. It's a completely separate project.

Well, they were quite warlike... but the Earth government didn't like them blowing up everyone...so they got de-militarized. :v

Plenty of wrecks scattered around the solar system though.

I just adore the simpler look of these 'example' figures. It's much easier to digest that a load of details stacked on details and helps focus in on their 'primary' features. Awesome! >X 3

The comments I do get from you, when you decide to stop by my corner of the interweb are great.

The simplification of detail and forms is really something I have to work on to create strong character designs. My background in overly complicated technical concept art built a completely different style of art.

alexichabane , Shabazik , and to some degree you, have found the balance between detail and style that is inspiring. I gotta do some more studies of western animation before I can truly be happy with this Solar Wind setting's look, though.
Thanks, once again for the comment RemnantComic.

Daemoria In reply to OhMyGoshItJosh [2016-04-02 03:41:30 +0000 UTC]

It's an attack helicopter. Neither male nor female. Not really a 'transgender' since that implies they were biologically male or female, and then transitioned to the new gender, as far as I understand of the term.

And you haven't even seen the spaceships. :v

But yea, I have a deep appreciation for everything The Expanse gets right, and how it's helping to expose young new scifi hopefuls to the world of realistic orbital mechanics and spaceflight.

My solar wind concept is much older than the show, but there will be some similarities between the two settings, by virtue of how 'realistic' each are. Of course, I'm trying to get a unique stylistic take on the look of the setting, but there are constraints based on real physics that I need to take care of for everything to look right.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Krcmar In reply to Daemoria [2016-03-28 23:49:42 +0000 UTC]

The thing that made it really similar were the Belters, which I actually remember you mentioning long before, also, why are Duster..Martians so short? the gravity is less so they should be more :3 Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Daemoria In reply to Krcmar [2016-03-28 23:54:18 +0000 UTC]

Martians are a little odd, I know. Hell, they don't even have belly buttons, those freaks! :U

Their two genders are actually taller than regular earth gravity female example (Jovian nations). It could be due to any number of reasons; genetic engineering to lead to increased muscle mass and thus a stockier appearance, employment of artificial gravity, etc.

Thanks! No stel, is muh OC! :K

This setting is actually an older creation of mine, that actually ended up getting mutated into what is now the Bright Future setting, after meeting the crazy hoboking Khal941 . I am trying to make a visually unique look to this setting, to prevent confusion.

Ah, thought so. You have been a massive inspiration, but i do have other things i draw from (like the Children of Sol universe by supersampled ),Β and i always try to not outright copy anything (and rebuild the tech from the ground up to my standards). "Attack Helicopter" is a gender... but "Metatek-Entity" is a better gender! (Woo! Gender wars commencing in 3... 2... 1...)

But seriously... I really like the Martians! The Belters looks tough, and the Jovians are all high-falutin' and such... fancy garters and hose!... but them tentacles tho... I gotta go with the Martians here.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Daemoria In reply to DBrentOGara [2016-04-02 02:44:54 +0000 UTC]

In the cumming gender-war, those eqpuipted with Attack Helicopters shall surely prevail. And when said helicopters have tentacles... well I guess the other factions better just bend over and bite those pillows.

Martians are... sexycute(?), if I could sum them up in one word. Damn right, those Jovians know who has the monies. And it certainly ain't you. Plebe.

Belters are the main characters tho. They got to have some redeeming qualities... so I gave them a bit of everything that makes truckers, lumberjacks, the crew of the Nostromo, and hobos cool.

A peek at the failed prior Sol(AR) wind style. Oh wait, I can just post this, and spam everyone's inbox with martian diiiick.

Pretty sweet, it's nice to see you don't always create perfect art the first moment your stylus touches the tablet! Attack Helicopters with Tentacles... interesting.

I certainly do not have money... but neither do I pleb.

The Belters look cool in both pics... I'm glad you gave them some redeeming quality... but which quality was it?

Belters are really the distilled essence 'scruffy spacer' (do not drink distilled Belter essence) and since that's pretty much my current occupation, I have plenty of reference.

DBrentOGara In reply to Daemoria [2016-04-03 00:26:38 +0000 UTC]

You're a 'scruffy spacer'? Nice... do you always shoot first?

And I would never drink distilled Belter essence... that's what Gelflings are for!

...I've heard that the ladies don't actually like men who always shoot first... but I can't for the life of me figure out why!

They are super weird... I never saw them as human enough to be in the valley for me... but then, I'm an anti-social loner who doesn't like other humans, so there's that. I thought the Skeksis were pretty much the best things ever.

...how is it my custom dictionary doesn't know Skeksis???

So I noticed that there aren't any Earthers, has Earth been rendered uninhabitable and/or is nobody living on the moon? In addition, since gas giants are radioactive, are Jovians resistant to radiation or do they have another way of protecting against it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Daemoria In reply to Yahtzeemaybe [2016-03-27 13:49:50 +0000 UTC]

Daemoria In reply to Yahtzeemaybe [2016-03-27 13:47:59 +0000 UTC]

Humans just look like Jovians. They're still there, in fact they are the only ones who have a refined set of space craft, everyone else just has sketches and notes.
Newtonian

The inhabitants of the Jovian system live in networks of stations and luxury vessels that have been shielded from the radioactive nature of Jupiter. The unfortunate sods who actually do the mining and maintenance on the various gas platforms and mining facilities have to pay for regular anti-cancer treatments.

Daemoria In reply to BOH-Games [2016-03-27 13:37:57 +0000 UTC]

It's a style choice. I don't have to focus on internal details, instead focusing on the flow of the form, and establishing a solid silhouette. Landmarks get added as needed later (kneecaps, major muscle forms, clothing where appropriate).

It's quick and simple. I'm trying to get a more stylish feel, similar to Pixar/Disney. If I were to sketch these with 'standard' linework, I would have to put much more effort into refinement for it to look presentable. And frankly I'm still too unskilled to do quick and good stylized characters. The silhouettes are much more forgiving.
