Description
2013-04-27 Livestream request for ~DeilspaceGrist and ~romgab .DeilspaceGrist requested rarity in a summer dress, romgab wanted to see something with cookies. Subsequently they added the hat, tea, and an OC appearance. And then I came up with all this other background stuff. A significant part of the painting was done during the livestream, but I still needed to do a fair bit of work afterwards to get it finished.

Hey doll, lovely dress! I'm no expert in shading but this is not the first time I've noticed it in your paintings, the cast shadows don't mix with the rest of the shading. Just look at where the dress meets the ground, it looks a tad bizarre.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is indeed a bit off. I'm no expert either, but when in doubt I'll at least try to do something that looks good from an artistic point of view. Not sure how that worked out here.
But maybe you can help me out a bit. What exactly do you think looks odd about the shading between the dress and its shadow on the ground?

Alrighty! [link] I illustrated what dark area I think the light source implied from the cast shadow would look like on Rarity with a few strokes (compare with the original), and illustrated the differences in light sources I see throughout the image. The red circle shows where there should be cast shadow from the horse from the big chair shadow perspective, which is dominant on the picture.
Hope this helps!

Cool, thank you for the visual analysis. That definitely makes some sense, adding some shading in the areas you suggested wouldn't have hurt. I mostly held back there because I didn't want the shading on Rarity to become too dark and muddled. Also if the directions of the shadows don't quite make sense, or suggest a light source in a different place than I intended, that's because I was lazy and didn't properly construct the perspective in the scene.

Her left hind leg should be behind her right hind leg. Just a bit of it is visible, but details may be a bit muddled there.

This turned out splendid! Thank you so much! :3 I love all the extra details you did, and particularly like the way the flower on her hat turned out. Classiness at its finest.

These cookies are what makes Derpy derp-eyed! Look at what they're doing to Rarity!
Couldn't resist.
Lovely painterly-ish impression here. The colour transitions feel very sweet. Well done!
