Description
Did another art stream last Saturday. They tend to motivate me pretty well, and it's always a bit of a surprise what comes out of it. This time was no exception, where I started with no plan whatsoever and ran with the first idea that popped into my head. Tis a sad thing for any sentient creature to be immortal, for it means that they will eventually be the last one left in any group. I wonder how Celestia has coped with watching her friends age and die. Like in the micro comic featuring Celestia: she remembers when a young mare named Inkwell fought alongside her during an enemy siege against Canterlot. In present day, Inkwell is now an elderly professor at the Canterlot Academy of Magic, and is about to be kicked from her position be the education committee. Celestia appears to be rather stressed out by the situation. She does not want Inkwell to be fired. Essentially, it seems as though Celestia does not want things to change, even though immortality gives her no choice. She may have given Inkwell a few more years to teach, but she knows that Inkwell is nearing the end of her life, which is something she cannot change. Now that Twilight is immortal, how will she cope? Has she yet to realize that she will long survive her friends? Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is something all sentient creature should possess: the right to live, the right to die, and the right to love and be loved. With immortality, her right to die, her liberty, is taken away.

Where are you? Are you on some one else's road or can you walk on your own to your own heart's invaluable beat?
Why are you? Why haven't put this all together?
When are you? When will you? Will you ever? Or will it take until long after everything worth fighting for is completely gone?

Beautiful. Elegant yet sombre gaze into a Renoir-esque rendered surface.
Fantastic expressive brushstrokes in transition from waters edge to grasses and again to foliage and trees. It suggests movement due to a troubling wind.

So pretty much everything in this picture is cool to look at and pretty good from an objective standpoint, but I still just have to ask; Does everything you make have to be MLP-related? I'm not lashing out at you or anything, and if it's what you want to do, then go right ahead and do it, but having everything in your gallery be fanart (of anything, really) can really kill your creativity if you don't make anything else. You have and obscene amount of talent, dude, and I really want to see something from you that isn't fanart. But if that's not what you want, then that's your choice, and that's ok. Whatever floats your boat.

Hey, thanks for you comment. I see where you're coming from, but to be honest, I don't share your concerns for several reasons.
First of all I don't think that fanart is any less original - in fact all art relies on some common cultural heritage, and fanart is in that sense no different. Therefore there is no reason to think that creating fanart stifles creativity in any way. Sure, by choosing a fandom, you restrict yourself to a specific context, but there are plenty of aspects that can be varied still. As any other genre of art can demonstrate, restriction can be a great source of inspiration. Furthermore being part of a collective of artists and having an audience that share a common interest has so far only proven to be extremely inspiring and motivating, so no complaints there either.
Finally, there is no reason to think that I am not ever going to do anything original of my own. To be honest, I recognise the lifespan of this fandom is limited, and at some point I will get tired of it and move on. However, I am not going to force myself to move on while I am enjoying myself drawing fanart. I have no professional standards to uphold, since I am in no way interested in making a career in art. So for now I am enjoying the ride, and will continue as long as I can find new things to learn here.
PS.: If it provides any solace, I do have some original ideas I want to work on some day, but I have no idea when that will happen. I just let these things come to me naturally.

I'm curious as to how you did the reflection. Β Did you copy the image of Twilight, flip it, and then smudge/paint over it, or is the reflection part an entirely separate painting?
