☆ Bonkers (ボンカース) after a whole lotta waiting (sumimasen!)-- Bonkers is finally here on Deviantart, in all his 3D-polymer-clay-sculpted glory! The biggest and baddest of Kirby's Super Star Helpers sure can pack a wallop with his mighty mallet. He is a miniboss, after all, yielding the hardest-hitting copy ability of them all, ever since his introduction in Kirby's Adventure. Perhaps to compensate for his strength, Bonkers' sprite is larger than the rest of Kirby's crew (besides Bugzzy, but we'll get to him later...) therefore, he makes for a slower-moving and somewhat clumsy playable character. He also tends to be a bigger target... but all that's nothing when you have the awesomeness of HAMMER ability on your side! Why, with just a few swings of the epic Hammer Flip technique, Kirby or this Helper can fell most Big Boss characters in a matter of SECONDS! King Dedede would be so proud... Truly, the weapon of choice for those speed-running the Boss Rush/Arenas or the infamous Helper To Hero mode, of which Bonkers is the undeniable champ~ The simian slugger is also great for pounding steaks to solve puzzles, but lacks any long ranged moves (he can't even do a Hammer Throw) which holds him back a bit.

☆☆ Bonkers, as mentioned, is fashioned after a primate. His big gorilla appearance is even more apparent in the anime, which also had him as a friend of Kirby's. As a miniboss, Bonkers summons coconuts from who-knows-where, and hurls them at Kirby with explosive results. Watch out for his hammer swings and fits of rage, where he'll leap around the screen like mad. I can't tell you how many times I've been tricked by this miniboss's AI-- it seems he always knows when I'm going to spit a star at him, and he ends up leaping over my projectile every time! Ergh! Yes, Bonkers is a tricky one... Who knows where this big monkey got his fashion sense from, but props to him for pulling off the styled hair/purple-armor and ragged-jeans look. He even hold his pants up with a belt! Finally, Bonkers' eyes are always darkly hidden by his prominent brow, which compliments the character's strong jaw.

☆☆☆ I'd like to take the time to comment on how odd it is that all hammers in the Kirby series look just like the one owned by the original Hammer-wielder, King Dedede. Is there some sort of mad mallet mastercraftsman mass producing these wooden behemoths? Why do they all sorta look like wine barrels? And, with Bonkers looking like a gorilla carrying a giant barrel over his shoulder, I'm getting serious Donkey Kong vibes, now that I think about it... You can see HAL subtly try changing the Hammer design for different characters in a few instances. In the anime and some official art, Kirby and Bonkers' Hammers have no logo on their faces, since the star seems to be reserved for Dedede. One of my favorite fannon reasons for this is, because the king has a hatred of stars, he emblazons his mallet with their image to make his victims understand the irony. While they're literally "seeing-stars" he is bashing them over the head saying "YOU LIKE STARS NOW, HUH?! YEAH!! I'LL SHOW YOU STARS, YA PINK PUNK~!"-- that's my impression of Dedede
