Description
Shot at 4x with a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens. This is something that a lot of flies do -the prevailing theory is that exposing their stomach contents to the air aids in digestion.

Critters have no privacy any more with you around!
Always appreciate your education on the side.

WOW! How did you get the fly to stay still long enough to shoot?

When they are occupied (blowing bubbles, eating, etc.) it's not too difficult to get close to them. If they aren't doing anything then they can put all their attention into "photographer avoidance" and I don;t get close

this is like a portrait... of a fly! mad, love this shot. Macro is just a whole new world. Great capture, i like how you bother to learn about what's actually happening in your shots too. eg. learn a bit about flies

I guess that's why people say that flies throw up when they land

He was on my window sill but as soon as I got close he started to drag in that bubble so he could move. I got about 6 or 7 frames before it took off.

I never thought I'd be saying this about a fly, but: it's beautiful!

Is it's mouth ... open?! oh goodness. [somehow it reminds me of the goblins from the movie The Labyrinth. And not the El Labirinto del Fauno but the 1986 David Bowie one]
This is crazy amazing. Just the fact that you were able to get close enough for this is amazing. However, I don't know if I really want to ever see a fly this close up in real life ...

Thanks
I'm glad that a lot of common creatures are so small -if they were any bigger we'd be in a lot of trouble...

Very cool shot, I like how the drop acts as extra magnification for the mouth
Usually I see them with this clear color, but occasionally I see a red drop. Any idea of what a fly must eat to cause that?

Thanks
No idea on the color, I guess it would depend on what they are eating.
